Technics tonearm help..

Looking for some advice. Just started a project with a Technics SL-1810 an I was told to consider swapping the tonearm for a SL-1200 MK2 or even better a MK5 tonearm and weight. I am all for this if it makes an improvement but I want to understand what I am gaining and why the MK5 is better than the MK2 tonearm. I already planned on a rewire and dampening of the stock arm so I will do the same mods to the new SL-1200 tonearm. Any help, info, or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

I damped mine with teflon tape and rewired with Cardas wire. I've looked at buying the 1200 arm however; the arm that is on these is pretty darn good I doubted whether I would be able to hear any difference between them after modification. YMMV

I mounted a 1200mk2 arm to a sl 1500 a while back, no problem....
