I've got a chance to pick up this Telefunken console stereo. Don't have any info on it however. Do you think it is tubed? Did any of the telefunkens have seperate amps or were they all integrated w/ tuner? Would $40 be too much? Thanks.

If it is a tube amp, snatch it. The tubes alone will justify the purchase. I bought an old Telefunkin console a few years ago. It was beyond my abilities to repair and my tech didn't want something that big in his shop. I cleaned it up and gutted the insides. It is a very nice stereo cabinet for a finished garage system. The tubes have proven to be very useful.

My guess would be late 50s, possibly an Imperial model. If so, then VERY desirable. I have an ad with a similarly sized and styled Telefunken Imperial from 1959 which was selling for $1250! I'd definitely go check this one out.

The '59 Imperial had two separate 6BQ5 push-pull monoblocks with individual tone controls and such for each channel. $40 would NOT be too much if it turns out to be one of these.

Telefunken is high end stuff.....if its anything in terms of quality like their mic's were dont pass it up!
