No. Have the mono box on CD.

I like all the hype about it though. It will stimulate sales of used Beatles vinyl.

Not mine. I'm not selling any of my used vinyl. ;) Especially my used BEATLES vinyl, they're almost all nice first pressings. :thmbsp:

5 discs down and all is still flawless!

Jim

Got it for my birthday last week. Listened to the whole thing in four days. Not even remotely disappointed.:tresbon::music::D

Nope.

There are so many issues, the originals, the domestic remix Capitols, UK red and blue boxes, the Japanese red Odeons, Mofi box on JVC vinyl, the Toshiba/EMI DSD reissues...

I don't like the basic premise of this reissue, Pro Tools clean up (heresy), sample rate of 24/44.1 transfer lame, what happened to the 24/192?

This has got to be one of the highest dollar songbooks issued on vinyl in all time, why the hell didn't they see fit to do it the honorable job it deserves? It sounds like pillows are in between my ears and the speakers. I'm glad I didn't pay for this box.

Olson, I don't know if you know this but I am a huge Beatles fan. And Strawberry fields with all of its tape track foibles of the day is still simply amazing to my ears... well on just about any Brit, Odeon, even the Toshiba/EMI but, not the new box. Even the Mofi as much as you need to crank the hell out of the volume... to about 11, even those sound nice.

Maybe I've been listening to these records for to long, to bad someone at the Abbey Road wasn't listening.

I don't know, maybe you're just pulling my chain, wouldn't be the first time... But I'm pulling the chain on this new box set a huge mixed bag, sorry. Flush!!!

My two-part assessment. 1) sound quality, and 2) Pressing quality

I bought these individually as I don't believe in the ''Box set'' philosophy. Besides, I wanted to appreciate them one-by-one, like I did when I was a kid. Now that I have all the new discs, here is my feedback:

1) Sound quality: for my tastes, these have indeed the best sound quality of all releases regardless of format. I can understand that those with the UK 1st press might think otherwise. In general, the UK 1st press have more focused imaging and depth of field. The new releases, however, have a thundering bass more in line with 70's recordings. This to me is justified as EMI (and others) during the 60's were obsessed with severe bass-cutting. We can now clearly hear why Macca is one of the world's best bassists. Other versions don't even come close (MoFi, Japanese, and especially, Capitol)

Pressing quality: don't order online. Be prepared to return 60% of them. Some of them had to be returned twice. The quality control is among the worst I've ever seen/heard. They are pressed in the US by a plant called Rainbo. If you're Europeen, you won't have this preoblem.

Huge box sets!! Senseless buy!!

My wife was really excited about this collection when it was announced so I bought it for her on the weekend.

Even though we have all the albums on vinyl, cd or both, this really is a nice collection to have.

The problem is though, and bear in mind that I own and run a music store, that many artists are throwing out these extremely expensive box sets that have nothing on them. Nothing new at all....! Just more copies of the same old stuff at a ridiculously over inflated price... ie... Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, Kiss..... and on and on and on..... Kind of a joke if you ask me. Even though I love these bands, its a waste of money. Its like buying Cubic Zirconia instead of diamonds, f aux fur instead of chinchilla, gold plate instead of solid gold. Its basically a knock off. They will never be worth anything, and that has been proven time and time again. You can pick up the Pink floyd Discovery box set up now for $125 brand new.... MSRP $349.99! Beatles Stereo/Mono Box CD $80 brand new.... MSRP $399.99! Get the originals in VG+ or better condition and you will actually have something that will hold its value, and will history proven rise in price. Not only that, but will sound wonderful.... Just my humble opinion.... backed up by fact! lol....

It is debatable what will be worth what as time goes by... I am a collector and don't hesitate to speculative buy/sell and make a dollar where possible. I would agree that this particular box set may never be worth a dime more than it sells for today (which was introduced and selling for less than retail, go figure). Let's just look at the somewhat flawed, yet very popular 1982 release on JVC vinyl "the Collection" Mofi 14 record box set that many said was EQ'ed to death and would never be worth more than the $242 that it sold for originally, oops! a M- box today will set you back $1,1-1,600.00 USD. Hmmm, well let's see... then their are the 2003 EMI/Toshiba w/obi PCM sets (a complete unopened set just went for 2K earlier this year) so again oops!, or the red 1982 Odeon MONO LP series w/Obi (nope, can't find one playable for under a C note), and the seventies British red mono/blue stereo boxes... well a VG++ with some solid scuffing on the box will still garner four hundred buck, Soooo, I think I can safely conclude that somebody doesn't have a very good idea of what they do for a living. Yeah, we're all brilliant with ten minutes and Google, and yes, there are always aberrations of some sort to prove that anything might happen but, these are pretty good numbers and prove market value quite to the contrary.:D

I think EU pressed remastered Beatles box sets, that have been play tested and have no pressing issues. Could actually be worth a premium in the future. Sealed US sets might not hold their value in the long run. As they may contain defective vinyl.

It's anyone's guess what these sets will be worth in time. But one thing is certain, there will always be a large amount of defective US pressed vinyl out there, that could(if it already hasn't) scare away potential buyers. That said....if it's priced dirt cheap, there's always someone willing to take a chance on getting a deal!

I bought my box set at Costco a month ago, great price.

I've listened to every album and they're all perfect, so I'm really satisfied. Also, I find that they sound much "fuller" than the originals, I like the increase in bass actually.

A good point of clarification (if this box ever garners a premium) since the pressing quality report is generally night and day between the colonies version by Rainbo vs. UK Pallas. What a mess.

True, but at the same time, like I said before, those boxes that you speak of had some unreleased tracks on them and were limited. The box sets that are coming out now including this one, are limited only to how many they can sell.... lol.... and they don't have anything new on them, you are just getting a rather plain and boring box around a bunch of way over pressed reissues. I'm a vinyl nut, and have well over 100,000 records and donate anything less than VG+ to the salvation army, because I hate goodwill, and the better part of my collection is 50's to 60's rock, psych, garage, jazz, blues.... and VG++ to sealed, I'm just saying that if people go out and buy these way over priced box sets hoping to buy a car with it in the next decade, they will end up with a ton of lack luster reissues, with most worth a quarter of the original retail or less if left sealed. Mofi, OBI... These are always limited and highly sought after, much better gamble. Apple, Capitol, Epic, Warner Bros.... These guys just dump a ton of sets out there and they are not the quality of MOFI. Just saying.... If you are a big enough Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones fan to spend that kind of money on reissues, then you should already have at least some of their albums, and it would make more sense to finish out the collection with originals that always hold their value and have a steady record of going up. So I guess if you are looking for everyday players, they are not bad, but that would be it. I wouldn't expect to get your money back from these sets. But that is just one mans very educated opinion, from being in and around the record business my entire life... lol... just saying....

There is truth in what you say.

However, anybody who is buying these or any other records "hoping to buy a car with it in the next decade" needs to study basic investments and probably find another hobby.
