The Christmas vinyl albums have started playing!

G'day all, this afternoon with afternoon tea with my family, the first of my sizeable collection of Christmas vinyl albums got played, one of the Goodyear Christmas albums (Album Four), a fine album it is too. :thmbsp: :yes: Regards, Felix aka catman.

my preference is to play the xmas jazz releases. this way, the traditional songs dont grate on the nerves after so MANY hearings over the years.

songsl like kurt elling singing have a cool yule and michael franks doing-i put a plastic star on my aluminum xmas tree.

i also found a remix album with the art of noise performing songs from the movie-the santa claus.
 
Funny you should mention Christmas music. I too have an extensive collection of LP's & CD's and last night I thought I would get 'into the spirit'... 'nothin 'doin, nada, nyet. After trying for over an hour I switched to 'secular' music. I'll try again next week and maybe I can catch the fever Catman

What is with tire companies and Xmas albums? In the US, we had Firestone Christmas albums in the '60s, they're in every damn thrift store from coast to coast!

beatcomber, that is so weird! My daughter( 18 & at college) came home with this album & one of it's mates last year. We played a side a week or so ago.
 
that record is in virtually EVERY thrift store pile of record. who knows, maybe its the most pressed record in history.
 
Some of my favorite Xmas albums include:

"A Christmas Gift for You From Philles Records" (aka "Phil Spector's Christmas Album")
"In the Christmas Spirit" Booker T & the MGs
"God Rest Ye Merry Jazzmen" Dexter Gordon, Wynton Marsalis, etc.
"Santa's Secret" various R&B from the '40s & '50s

...and some classics:

"Merry Christmas" Johnny Mathis
"The Christmas Song" Nat King Cole

Pictured is the album we listened to growing up. I found a mint copy in a thrift store a few years ago. I remember when my dad bought it at an A&P Supermarket around 1970. It has all the usual good old school stuff - Mathis, Goulet, Mitch Miller, etc. along with one peculiar choice: "Count Your Blessings (Instead of Sheep)" by Tammy Wynette, which isn't a Xmas song. Yet somehow that song fits in well with the others!

wow, the A&P! i used to shop there in buffao and when i got to LA, there was one of those rubber mat contact door mats that triggered the the door opener that had the A&P logo at the local LUCKY market. A&P had already disappeared in so-cal by 1970.

remember when the local grocery store sold LPs ?
