Thought I would share some image of these fairly rare, not often talked about very nice speakers from the earliest years of The Fisher. A couple about 2 miles from here are slowly selling off their folks things after they passed away a few years ago and among the various stuff was a quadraphonic stereo set including 4 of these XP-1's
These are the early iteration with the cool grille cover which is just like those plastic fluorescent light fixture covers you see in offices. It came out easily enough and the linen fabric cover peeled right off the front of the baffle. It is just a rectangular piece and is adhered with a 2 sided thick tape like the 3m stuff. They of course have the cool script The Fisher badges. I have since soaked those grille covers to get the years of smoke and grime off and the came out just fine - much whiter than they were. The linen I will probably use some fabric cleaner on or similar so it does not shrink up.
The cabinets are nice other than a couple dinged corners. They wont be too hard to fix.
As far as sound goes, after i used them for a bit they opened up and sound pretty good driving them with my Dynaco ST70 Pas2 combo. Still a bit of that old cap veiled sound so they will get a recap. I came across some descriptions of the drivers and will post that next.
The bottom photo they are sitting on top of my Wharfedale W70b's for a sense of scale. They are intended to be on their side as bookshelfs but doubt it matters. I will also follow with some shots of the back and insides shortly.
