I didn’t know thatwhack job“dreamer”, to put it kindly, had a radio station. It was spring, a health spa and a railroad. It’s been the Desert Study something or other since the 70’s. Sorry I spelled it wrong it’s Zzyzx, as if …
re: bizzare radio collection
I’d love to hear Dr Dimento getting dressed down by the church lady upstairs for playing a parody of Jingle Bells. KPPC was an AOR station in the basement of the Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Incensed, she told him that anyone who would play that song was demented.
I attempt to unclog a bathroom sink.
I’ll check it out. Re: bowling balls & nam: I’m guessing early “advisor” or idiot. My best buddy OD McWhorter enlisted, drove a ski boat at West Point for the summer, got in-country no orders, sat around for 2 months and being small got scooped up by recon and won the jackpot. Tunnel Rats walked point, no uniforms and were unshaven. He carried his Walther in his teeth in the tunnels and dragged Claymores behind him.Yes, I used that term unkindly and regret it. And Dr. Demento wa great. Being in SOuthern California I heard the show based for that market rather than the sort of cleaned up one for syndication.
I’ve been a big fan of radio since the early ‘60s when I got my first crystal radio and then my dad gave me a Hallicrafters shortwave. Spinning the dials was a hobby until radio pretty much died off about 20 years ago. Yes, I listened to KPPC quite a bit and still have scraps of it in the collection. I recorded lots of stuff back in the day.
These days, I look for recording tapes at thrift shops, estate sales, wherever, hoping to find something other that copies of LPs and I’ve done pretty well. One treasure trove, 563 reels, yielded about 900 hours of content, mostly religious/political shows from the late 50s and early 1960s along with live recordings from very conservative group meetings (thing Birchers) from that era. Another find, 200 reels of paper backed tape, had lots off the air content of local interest. My most recent find was just a week ago. I friend asked if I wanted anything out of a few tubs of cast off computer gear someone had given him. In the bottom of one I found an audio cassette. It was a voice letter from a young man to his parents. Based on the stamps on the box, I date it as late-1960s. One of the tie bits was how he had been thinking of buying himself a bowling ball but thought it would be a hassle to take that to Vietnam. I do take almost all the content that is not clearly copyrighted and post it to my web site: www.otrannex.com
No, I don't have one. I first tried the plunger method, that was useless. We have some lye product just for this. I tried that twice, which, per instructions, is the limit. I guess it eats the pipes or something. The water now puddles up in the sink and goes down slowly. I'll have to go get a snake. Sheesh!Got a good snake ?

FF to 2005 and my son, also small, the Airborne SAW gunner is going to the sandbox to kick down doors. We have a huge sendoff - 3 brisket & 2 (real) kegs BBQ. Wanna guess what Uncle Dean brought Matt to take to Iraq in a brown lunch sack? A Walther PPK of course.
