FMtunerinfo is an april joke all year round to me anyway.

They dare not test anything up against the Tandberg TPT 3001A and they dare not test for quality of sound with real greatly matched gear.

Otherwise their informations can be useful if you let a good protion of your own scepticism to their credibility shine through.

Dolph,

I love Tandberg tuners and they are excellent. However they're less common in the USA, I regard them comparable to the McIntosh MR 74 and 77 in RF performance and slightly better on sonics. Lirpa looF describes Lirpa Labs.

While some unknowing persons thought Lirpa was a takeoff of April the reality is that the company was started in April and after spending many a dollar on trying to develop a unique memorable name finally chose Lirpa because the President is dyslectic. The company decided on a business cycle that it would release a new product only in April to match it to the generous tax refunds that started to arrive that month. A sound business decision as in January and February persons did not spend saving for tax, and then there was summer vacations drawing on available cash and then back to school and the holiday season.

I've heard the company maybe coming out with a HT system powered by unobtainium.

Some day I am gonna create a larger than life scale "Lirpa" phono cartridge, with dual cantilevers( round stylus for bass, line contact for highs) with a delay line box to align the lows and highs from the dual styli, and price it at 135,000$. I may list it on Audiogon on April 1 next year and see if I get any buyers, especially with the fantastic specifications it will have.

If I ever win powerball...:scratch2:...I'm gonna start a ultra evil audiophile Hi-Fi company called "Unobtainium". With all the best tuner designers from Accuphase, Kenwood, Sansui etc I'll build the ultimate tuner that actually performs as well as the (..fictional) Lirpa does in that review of thiers. And just to torture the hard core at tunerinfo, I'll just make the one prototype and put it on permanent display....
