The New HDMI board in on Onkyo a vast improvement

I had nothing to compare My TX-NR709's to, but with the new HDMI board I realize there was something wrong with it from the get go. I am watching and listing to the 5.1 stuff I have and I am actually hearing surround sound, and it's sound quality is greatly improved. I also notice the visual quality of the HDMI feed from the Apple TV is much better. I am watching Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey the 3D affects in the atmosphere of Jupiter is astonishing. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this?

First, glad they fixed it for you.

Second, I bought a repaired 60? from another AK'er, who had the caps blow. He recapped, and put a noisy fan on it to keep cool. Sounds pretty good, so I can't say if its better or worse, just functional.

Many brands suffered from that HDMI vendor. My HK I bought off Craigslist, same issue. Opened it and found a resistor completely exploded, and no fan activity (had two fans, both dead).

Enjoy your Onkyo. With that repaired, she should sound nice.

The 709 has a fan installed, I didn't even know it had one until I pulled the top cover off to look at the insides. you might consider installing a fan with a speed control. I have one in my PC with it you can slow the fan down to quiet it down. These fans cost about $10 or so bucks.
