The Sony X900H vs X950H TV...what's your take?

After a fair bit of deliberation/consideration, have decided to go with the X950H over the 900. At least up and until this point.

The upper ender does cost more, and some of the video pundits in their reviews seem to think a long these lines that the 950 is the way to go....but it's not their money!

I've tried to assess the differences in these two models in the store environments, but it's really difficult to do with the bright lighting and not knowing how the innards have been set. Sound is not an issue, as I already have an A/V receiver set up for 5.1 surround sound.

If anyone can either support my intention to go with the upper model or point out the extra cost is not really worth the extra cash, I'd really appreciate your take on this situation.

Thanks in advance,

I have neither but on very quick scan it looks to me like it is a decision between possibly a bit better overall picture quality (950H) vs. some potentially useful features of the 900H (HDMI 2.1, eARC, ATSC 3 tuner, possibly lower latency).

I had the X950H for a brief period and decided it wasn't to my liking. Decent picture, but, for whatever reason, I couldn't get it look good to me, having been used to a plasma. There was some blooming and off axis viewing is not the best. But, what bothered me the most was getting through the menu. The same number of steps it takes to get to a specific parameter is the same number to exit. I ended up returning it and ended up with the LG 48CX and I'm really happy with it.

You might want to go to the AVS forum and read up on the comments from owners for the 950H and the 900H comparisons. They're pretty in depth. Here's one of them.

Neither, get an Oled and don’t look back. I went through the same thing years ago and wasted my time and money on 7 different LED TVs before doing what I should have done in the first place and bought an Oled. Not only does it have all the qualities I loved in my plasma but it exceeded them.

Would go for the "OLED", but the prices are just too high in the TV Sony League.

Hello Forum / Guys..:)
I just bought both a couple of months ago.
I bought the 65" 900 Sony for myself, and, a 55" Sony 950 for my mother's room.
They were the same price. 995 dollars.

The 55" 950 has a better picture. I'm not sure if it is because it is smaller.
But, I can see her T.V. looks better than mine.
.
I do not notice the Quality differences when actually watching. stuff, But, I do appreciate the bigger size screen..
That size difference seems more of a important feature than the Picture Quality difference for me.

One problem with the 900 Series I have.....
My 65" Sony keeps rejecting my Computer / Internet , that is hooked up with the HMDI Cable.
I read there is a conflict with the HMDI Cable patents? , and, there is a conflict between TV Guys and the Computer Guys (?)
Had this in a post on an Internet search)
so, the TV disconnects the Computer/internet HMDI Cable signal every time I leave it on, or turn the TV off..
I got to unplug and plug in the HMDI Cable several times, to get the Internet connected to the TV..
Had that as part of the way to get the signal to got through again in the "How to Fix" part..

It does not do that on the 950 series Sony... Yet?
LOL :)

Hope this helps..
Alton :)

Yes the Sony is pricey when buying OLED but it has the best processor, so images are better especially when viewed off axis. It is like in the days past when buying a Plasma. Panasonic made great units, but Pioneer Elites had the better processing so action scenes were better and colors were more consistent and dynamics were better displayed from black to bright white. Same goes for a Sony OLED. Its just a better unit. The display maybe similar, but the processing great and Sony operating life life is much longer.

I’m in the same boat, cost on 950h is coming on, $2400. The 77” Sony OLED, $3500.

Well, have had the Bravia 950H for three months now, without any problems to date.(fingers crossed)

On some of my recorded programs there were a few lines of white spots, but nothing to bother me that much.

I don't like that I can't connect to my surround speakers using the "NETFLIX" app on the Sony remote, and have to make use of the DVD player to connect to this TV streaming service.

The brightness is really powerful, and have had to cut back on the brightness scale.

Other than the above minor quirks, and that's with an update in the mix, all's well so far.

I recently bought a 55" 950 and I'm very pleased with the set. I never seriously compared it to the 900 though, just next to each other in the store where I bought it, a local TV dealer, not a chain store. I read the tests and watched the youtube reviews and all that, for what that's worth. I don't play video games and use the set mostly for movies. Audio system is a modest but good 2 channel hi-fi.

I know a bit about what I want in a TV, going back to the days of judging TVs by their dot crawl and using the Video Essentials laserdisc to set up my sets.

I was considering these two (55") and chose the 900H. I couldn't see much difference in the store. I'm happy with the 900H.
