i've been after a set for a quite a while now, a set popped up on ebay somewhat locally, so i jumped on them with a BIN of 60., they're from the original purchaser/owner, i always loved the way they look, i hope they sound as good as they look, they should look good next to my t-200's i snagged a couple months ago, how do you guys feel about the t-100's?........................:scratch2:

I have a pair that's been out of rotation for a long period of time. have to clean up the cabinets - flower pot water marks.
For the price you paid, I doubt that you will be disappointed assuming all drivers are functioning properly

I've had a pair for a while. Got them from GW cheap. Cabs are so-so, tweets were dead, and no grills. Really haven't spent that much time listening. Too many projects ahead of them.

Are they OK? It depends. When I first set them up, bass was weak. Replaced the tweeters with a spare pair of cts phenolic rings. Changed the cap too and cleaned the L-pad. Took out all woofers, and noticed 2 had the magnets starting to lift. Epoxied those, then hot-glued all 4.

I also noticed that the foam (someone did a re-foam) on the cones were "lite" on glue. Re-glued those, tried them again, and put them to the side. When I have more time, I'll play with them to see if they're keepers or not.

Overall, my first impression is they are "average", like nothing to write home about.

Next round, I'll try them with a sub.

I had a set for a couple months. I found they were nothing special.
I sold them off.
I find their a pair of speakers that look very nice in someones decor but that's about it.
The 120's are a step up and sound 10 times better.

still kicking myself for scraping a set of t-120's that i bought new in the 80's, that was before i new anything about refoaming which is all they needed, the 100's will be used with one of my smaller receivers, so i think they should do ok, i hope...............:beerchug:

Did the same with my original Mach Two speakers. Finished a set of 120's and they sounded pretty good, though I hadn't done the caps, just the surrounds.

I would think fresh surrounds AND a re-cap would give them new life. I've learned not to judge speakers, anymore, without having done a proper rehab. I feel this is especially true with RS speakers. Most have very nice drivers (those that were made in Japan) but the networks often had cheap caps. Every RS speaker I've done so far has sounded a lot better to significantly better after a recap.

Probably the single exception is the Mach One, and unfortunately it's worst facet is the cabinet being too small. The VL mods, many people know about, do make a huge difference, but building larger cabinets from scratch is a better solution and has been proven by a few Mach One owners.

Let us know how yours goes. I had been watching that listing. If they were near me I would have bought them without reservation. Even if rehab didn't take care of things I could flip them OR replace the drivers with modern drivers (suitable for that configuration), as I like tower systems. T-110, T120, RTR G-200 (monster) and little towers Allison CD-7. What I like most is the drivers are at the correct height.

well i picked up my t-100's today, they look awesome, but i don't think the tweeters are working, going to try cleaning the L-pads first, any suggestions of what else to look for?, otherwise they're in way too nice of shape not to fix, was also wondering if any other shack speakers used the same tweeters................:scratch2:

If you decide to try different tweeters, the phenolic tweeters from Parts Express, that have been used in some Realistic update threads, are quite nice and will extend fairly low. Not sure if they fit though...or what ohms value you need.http://www.parts-express.com/phenolic-ring-tweeter-8-ohm--270-252

thanks, was already checking their site and ebay, found some on the bay that look real close, they definitely aren't working, i pulled one out and jiggled the wires and tapped on the magnet but no luck, so i'll be trying new replacements after making sure which ones will work without mods to the boxes..................:smoke:

On a plus side, check out the RS catalogs for that era (multiple years). Note the speakers available, chances are high that other models DO share one or more of the same drivers. That's how many of us hard core RS owners find replacement drivers.

P.E., however, is a good source in a pinch. Getting better it seems for replacement "vintage" drivers.

You know we're here to help.

Good luck.

The T-100's were very popular, and were made for quite a few years. I didn't like that they only had the one tweeter to handle most of the highs, I would of burned that sucker out in no time just like I did the opt. 5B's. i settled on the T-200's.

Geez these buggers were made a long time...

http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/html/1977/h019.html

I'd start with that year and move forward. Bound to be a couple other RS speakers (some more popular, due to price) that are more readily available, maybe even cheaper as donors.

tried a different tweeter just to see what would happen, nothin doin, looks like i'll be diggin deeper into them tomorrow, all four woofers work just fine, so i'll try cleaning the L-pad and go from there.............:scratch2:

I have some T-200 tweeters, wonder how similar they are. Take a picture of the T-100 tweeter, both sides if you can and post them.

i'll pull one back out tomorrow, i know the t-200 is different i own a set of 200's also, i'll try to get a pic as well...............:smoke:

I know the 200's have the horn lense in front of a plain paper tweeter, if you do away with the lense it might be very similar. Gee, where did you get those T-200's? :scratch2:

The #'s on the back of the T-100 tweets:

Tweeter
0734 8 ohms
Nominal 7W
Music 15W MAX
Japan

01029DS

I have no idea why I kept the dead carcass. It's been a while. Maybe to salvage the magnet off of it. :scratch2:

Hope this Helps.

P.S. The phenolic tweeters, like the ones from PE, would drop in. You need the 8ohm version, if you go with those. Holes don't match, but the frame covers the old ones.

so are you saying that new mounting holes are required?............

extra lucky find from c-list on the 200's, though i still need to get off my butt and do the surrounds.................

well i feel much better with these speakers now, after a deox to the L-pads i now have sound at the tweeters but only with know good ones, the originals are shot, so i'll be searching for the best replacement for the cabinets, biggest problem i've come across is is the hole diameter is only 2 9/16", the other measurements are, outside dia. is just over 4 1/4", bolt holes are 3 3/8" center to center, the closest i've found need a 3" hole dia. otherwise all else is the same, i would be cutting into the mounting thread inserts if i try to cut the holes larger, anyone know of a good replacement that will go right in?, BTW they are 8 olm..................:scratch2:
