Tice Power Block 1

Music is my mistress
I have a Tice Power Block that is acting up. Instead of meter showing 120Volts it reads around 135 and the needle oscillates back and forth to 137. Could it be a cap leaking? I mean I opened it up and aside from the wire transformer there are 2 caps and a bunch of wires.16136229808837741872187647620898.jpg 16136230620178356314433697608658.jpg 1613623088360280379976129259443.jpg
I plugged a radio into it and it played ok.
Could it be a cap? Thanks.

The Tice has windings for +10% and -10% in addition to with and without a cap in line

I believe you have the two front panel switches set for +10%.

Change the switches and see if you can get 122-124 volts on the meter. Then see if you can get 109-111 on the meter.

Set it for 122 or whatever.

At 2 and 4 I get this reading. I will try your suggestion..Also if you want to clean this to show room condition dust unit, spray with Murphy Oil Soap and wipe.

Now I know what to do if mine ever does that, thanks for sharing.

P.S. It was a nogo on those places separating the Titan from the Power Block , oh well I’ll keep trying.

My meter does not have the settings on it so I had to figure it out.

bummer, try posting a wanted thread on Audio Circle,Audiogon and here. If you can find one locally it would offset Cost=Shipping.

Yeah that’s true, I’ll do that . Shipping is going to cost a lot but will be worth it if I can get one imo.

Also on Audiomart and CanuckAudiomart.
The Titan just elevates everything, essentially your turning all your gear into A Bias. 1800W of pure power for quick things in music like Cymbals, kick drums. I won't go back.

Hmm. I was reading about service bulletins regarding the grounding on these units. From the factory on the early units, the ground from the "service" is not hooked up.
I'll have to think about this, but that seems quite dangerous. I used to use floating ground transformers at work and secondary output can be wonky if everything isn't just right.

OK, and just to keep things update - the Power Block\Titan that I acquired have been modified. It appears someone did connect the grounds - then the grounds were disconnected again (refer to photo with green wires in yellow lugs on transformer case mount have been cut).

I haven't looked\found the Service Bulletins but someone said Tice issues a SB to ground the receptables directly to the incoming ground (no connection to primary or secondary on the xformer) and then a follow up SB saying to disconnect that ground. So I don't know what the heck.

Here's a pic of the modified unit I have - I've verified, there is no earth ground from the service on these output receptables. Like I said, if all the other attached units are properly grounded, I think this could be OK (although against code?) but dang, I still think the floating secondary could get wonky. But I guess the neutral from the attached units would keep one leg of the secondary "grounded" for reference.
I'm also not crazy about how they have the receptacles jumpered via the removable tab on the side of the outlet, but I'll leave it as is.
