Today I Saw The New Price Sheet

This seems to be a new trend, for obvious reasons. Last month B&W increased prices about 20% across the board as well.

Funny story. My dad was eyeing the 802D, he wasn't really planning on jumping on them for a while. Then our dealer called to tell him about the increase. It was to go into effect in a few days. My dad MADE himself just forget about the whole deal then the night that the old price expired he told my mom "hey, I held off getting some new speakers.........." (thinking he was clear and free). Then my mom said something like "well, if you wanted them why didn't you get them". He calls the dealer the next day and asks if he can get on the list at the last minute. Dealer calls the rep, rep says that she is getting ready to FAX it right now, and he could just be added to the list. Needless to say, he got them for the lower price. They were going from $12k to 14k overnight. OUCH.

I guess I better not plan on buying any new gear for a while.

The good thing is that my used Mc gear and B&W speakers just went up a bit in value.

Personally I have no problem with Mc increasing its prices even though it hurts us as all manufacturers have increased their prices by a lot. I have seen the Wadia 581 jump almost 3k in 6 months over here. Rio Tinto increased its iron ore by almost 75% this year alone! :nono:

All this has gotta be passed onto us.

What I'm wondering is with the greenback worth as much as a horse's arse, has Mc gear gone up in price in Europe or not?:scratch2:

With a strong Euro (1 Euro = 1.5216 U.S. dollars) there is a great opportunity for McIntosh to export to Europe. However, logistics costs, import duties, VAT, distributor and dealer mark-up are all part of the equation.

It will be interesting to see if the price increase will be visible in the april pricelists, or if the Euro-Dollar conversion rate will compensate.

Buying power in Europe has been severely hit because of all the troubles in the US.

Compromised buying power and too high margins set by distributors and dealers could reduce the pool of potential buyers.

Victor, how about the Mcd 301?, Xls 320's and 340's? Sorry to keep asking, I guess I am still in shock! I am sure I am not alone, wanting to act now, but worried about the sinking economy and ... well you know...

New gear will stay at it's intro price. MCD-301 is $4500

Other gear will see the increase.

Victor - Price question

Do you know how much the MA6900 will go to and when this change will occur? I guess I need to jump in if I am going to get something.

Thanks a bunch -

Richard in Nashville

The MA6900 is out of production and is not on the new price sheet. It has been replaced by the MA7000. The MA7000 price is $7000 right now and will go up to $8000 April first (I'm not positive about the date for the new prices but I'm pretty sure it is April first). There may still be some new MA6900s in stock, so if you want a new MA6900 you better get one fast.

Victor -

I actually meant the MA6500 not the MA6900. Will the MA6500 still be in production and what will it's price be.

Also any thoughts on what you would buy to run with Magnepan 1.6's. They 86dB sensitivity and will drop to a 2 ohm load in high frequencies.

Thanks for the earlier response. It is appreciated.

Richard

The MA6500 is also out of production. The MA6600 replaced the MA6500 and has a retail price of $6000, that price will not change.

I have not heard the 1.6s, I have heard the 3.6s many times and actually the best amp I heard with them was a MC2102. The MC2102 was working hard with the meters pegging at 100 watts at louder volumes but it sounded great. I would think a MA6500 would be a good match for the 1.6 speakers but it may not play extremely loud, depending on the size of your room. Do you have a way to demo the MA6500 in your system?

No my dealer is about 175 miles away. I drove out there and listened to the MC275/C220 combo and really liked it but can not justify the 5k additional price over the other options I have been looking at.

I would like to get into the Mac world but for me I just do not want to spend that much. Oh well, I guess there are always other options.

Thanks for all the info!

Richard

... then the 6300

Has the 6300 been replaced by a 6400? What is the price, and what has changed on these integrateds?

The MA6300 is staying in the lineup. The new price on the MA6300 is $4000.

I have not seen the MA6600 or MA7000 in person yet but I do know they both have the new LED lighting, I'm not sure what other changes have been made. The MA6300 already had LED lighting and has only been in the lineup since 2006, so there was no need to update the MA6300.

It looks like there are only 3 products in the lineup that still have regular bulbs in them.

What does that say on the lower left? It looks like "K) Radio", what is that?
I think it is a logo for HD Radio. The MA6600 and AP1000 are supposed to be the first McIntosh products to accept the new TM2 AM/FM/HD Radio tuner module.
