Apologies. Missed this for a couple of months. I'd say if you are a Talking Heads fan this is worth a listen. Certainly test it out first on digital before seeking out the vinyl (if that's your prefereence for listening). Admittedly for me it hasn't been in regular rotation (so much music so little time) but I recall enjoying it upon discovery.

Funny, but I found a copy of that at my local library. I've just listened to the first two of the 3 discs on it and I've been finding it interesting, if kind of inessential. I was surprised by how many non-album tracks there are on it; far more than I've heard before. Some of it seemed to be pre-Jerry Harrison and particularly with that stuff, I was struck by just how great a rhythm guitarist David Byrne is. Mostly though, I found these versions to have a kind of tentative quality, particularly with Byrne's vocals, which seemed to become much more confident later on. It's not even as if he's really so far out of key, but his phrasing isn't so spot on. Anyway, you've reminded me that I need to put on that 3rd disk before I return the thing.

For me, the great live versions of those earlier songs are on the first 2 sides of the Name of This Band album. That stuff is really great!
 
I went to a record swap at a local brewery in Seattle this week. Super fun! I made one trade and it involved at least 4-people:

My copy of The Jam - Sound Affects went to someone who didn't have anything that I was interested in, but they had something that someone else wanted. That person had a partial trade with someone who wanted something he had, but they didn't and I think there might have been someone else involved, way too complicated for me to reconstruct, but I came away with this and am enjoying it at 1980s teenager volume now! Gonna have a slice of cold pizza out of the fridge while it spends, because it's either that or a Mickey's Big Mouth and I'm not even sure if they make those anymore. :confused:

Oh! I also won a $25 gift card to my favorite local, independent record store in a raffle! The whole night cost me 2-pints of really nice local beer.

That's a cool album and one that I've had for many years. Definitely a favorite! I think that I may have had a Jam album or two dubbed onto a tape back in the day, but somehow ended up feeling that their music was a bit too dry and humorless for my tastes. They were very good musicians though and their music definitely had something cool about it. I tend to mine that era (as well as several others) for music that I may have missed out on the first time around, so The jam stuff is on my shopping list, should I find deals on any of those old records. Sometimes, waht I didn't appreciate much the forst time around makes more sense to me years later...
