"Horowitz in Moscow"

Mr. Horowitz's 1986 concert in Moscow after an absence of 60 yrs. Even at 82, this man could play exceptionally well. Very good disc. Very, very good.

The 82 old's execution of Scriabin makes you wonder about his age. It's quite frankly scary.

His Schumann, 'Traumerei', brought tears not only to the eyes of the Russian audiences at the concert hall but also to those of a lot of other listeners of that recording. And that's still continuing, I'm sure.

Say,can anyone out there recommend a good Beethoven Missa Solemnis? In most of the ones I've heard I find the audio perspective to be lacking or the performance week in the subtleties that this massive work contains. It seems most recordings are a bit mushy lacking clarity, and the soloists, both vocal and violin are too forward sounding much bigger than the actual orchestra.:thumbsdn:The gorgeous violin solo in the sanctus loses it's meaning if not played right or if recorded to closely.Any recommendations?:scratch2:

Audio sonics are to taste, but this is a good performance.

Mr Lin I'd like to see your avatar beautifully driving on a record sometimes :D

Funny you say that right now. I don't know if you've been involved in any threads where I've already mentioned this, but I moved about 7 months ago and still haven't brought either of my turntables to the new house. But I'm starting to really get the itch, and I plan to bring the Thorens over hopefully this week (we now have a big fat cat so I'll need the dustcover on the Thorens to protect it - see sig picture). I've been focusing entirely on the digital aspects of my system this year, which has yielded its own rewards.

The ZYX Yatra in my avatar is a very expensive cartridge, and a hell of a performer. It's also no longer available, and the new version costs twice as much, so it's basically irreplaceable to me, same with the Glider. Because of that, I'm probably not going to use it for a while, until things get set up properly - so it'll be time to pull the Grado Silver or Dynavector 10X5 out of retirement.

Also, I just picked up a small pile of classical lps (and some others) from my cousin's new record store in Brooklyn - not to mention the decent classical lp collection I already have. Sorry to ramble on about this, but it happens to be something I've been pondering recently, hopefully I'll soon have some pictures of lps in this thread.
