Tonearm cue drops super slow

You're probably tired of taking it apart and reassembling it but try cleaning all of the lubricant off of the tube and plunger and see how it operates. If the arm drops quickly, it's a lube viscosity issue. If not, there may be a problem elsewhere. I've had repairs where it called for 300,000 wt oil, but after a thorough cleaning I've had to go as low as 30,000 wt to make it operate properly, mostly on C.E.C. made tables. That's what I was alluding to in post #9 about different manufacturers weights not being the same, although that's an extreme example. You can mix weights also.

What 12ax7 is suggesting is to clean it and try the cue operation with it completely dry. Possibly something is binding and that might help you pinpoint it.

Ahhh ok, I missed the part about running it dry. I will try that.

Also, the AT95E cart has a tracking range up to 2.5g. I currently have it at the recommended 2g, but should I increase it a little to add more weight down? Just wondering if I'm going to sacrifice the sound quality by doing that.

If you are sure it is tracking at 2 grams I would leave it. Cleaning everything off and testing it dry is a good idea. Maybe there is a burr on the plunger/shaft or something like that. If it is clean and dry your cart should fall pretty quickly. Glad to here it plays well with the lift out of the way.

The cylinder the piston goes into is open on the bottom and top, but I think I might have put too much on.

I have notice that when I play the first record after sitting overnight, it's stuck. Doesn't drop at all. After a few ups and downs and loosens up.

Going to clean it off sometime this week. Hope that's the issue.
