Top 10 Pioneer Elite Receivers

I am starting to put together a collection of Pioneer Elite Receivers. Would like to see what you guys would put on a Top 10 List.

What I have at this time.....

Pioneer Elite VSX-97
Pioneer Elite VSX-99
Pioneer Elite VSX-09TX
Pioneer Elite VSX-27TX (Was my 1st Elite receiver)

I am buying these now since these are cheap..Why??? This will be as with (Luxman..) to buy as the 70's gear will start to go Poof..Just looking down the road.

My VSX-39TX it was the last one to fet the full Elite treatment (gold trim and rosewood side paneling.) then the VSX-95, then the VSX-29TX.

I think he meant that he was buying them while they were cheap, because like the 70's gear that has already gone up, the prices for them is going to go up in the future, which it has in the years since he wrote it.
 
Not quite sure that Home Theatre receivers will ever be perceived as desirable.

The current craze is all about 2 Channel Stereo and retro.

We'll have to wait another 30 odd years to see if Home Theatre stuff ever goes anywhere. Somehow I don't think it will, but then you just never know.

Well that might be the craze right now but I can say that my VSX-95 hangs with every vintage receiver I have every heard, in fact in my opinion it has better sound than most of them I have heard. It was more like a 2-channel job with surround tacked on as an after thought. 125w@8ohms 20hz-20Khz 0.005% THD

That was my point, it is about now and I truly think that my kids generation will have absolutely no interest in any of this stuff that we are in to as our interest comes basically from stuff we saw in our childhood but couldn't afford back then and now we can if we can find it.

It's the same in the retro automotive game, it's all driven by our past childhood experiences and what we'd love our lives to get back to in some kinda strange way.
 
Late, I know but back then there were products being designed and manufactured that were something to get excited about. In today's world, everything is disposable and designed to last a few years. When is the last time you received the schematic for the product you purchased? And if you think any of the modern 'jelly bean' cars will be worth anything in 30 years, that just won't happen. Back in those times, a product was made to last as long as possible, Today's products are only made long enough to exceed the warranty.
 
VSX-9300 was start of a good lineup back in late 80's - culminating with the VSX-D1S which should be on the list. Generally regarded as one of the best VSX line by those who collect.

After that Pioneer went cheap in the 90's, many models of VSX with suspect quality, and Pioneer liked to re-use model numbers.

Early 2000's - VSX-49TXi entered as a new statement piece leading up to the 59TXi. There are other models that followed (Elite and non Elite), to me the ones with "Advanced Direct Energy MOS-FET" amplification sound good.

I've seen 49Txi and 59Txi's selling locally for around $100. Those were $4K receivers new. Will they ever go up in value? Maybe never. Original MSRP and how they were reviewed though when they came out could make it happen - if you wait 10+ years and they still work.
 
I scored a Pioneer VSX 58txi. This this is a monster weighing nearly 70lbs. This has to be one of the heaviest. It has a strong mosfet tube sound. It's incredible. It pre dated HDMI but does have the Bur Brown dac inside. I only use it for 2 channel. Remote sucks so I got a harmony to go with it. It's built to last and that is really what I was looking for!!!

For me its the 99. I also have and old SX-950 and use both for two channel stereo. The 950 definitely has a more old school warmth but the 99 is definitely cleaner and more powerful. I connected an equalizer to the 99 and it made quite a difference after some tweaking. The 99 has a surprisingly good tuner and phono section for a late 90's design.
 
Revisiting this thread.... currently own VSX-47TX which is great, and recently picked up a SC-07.
