I was in the north side of Chicago the other day, I wanted to try some new tubes to roll in my amp, so I decided to stop at Triode Electronics and check them out, I've ordered from them before, very fast, curteous and very honest and stright forward guys, although also very busy. When I walked through the doors I wasn't sure what to expect, however, the front of their store lists a TV/Radio repair shop, as I walked by the window, I couldn't even see in because of the equipment in the window. I half expected just some store front and maybe some tubes on display, what I found was simply amazing for me. Everywhere...and I do mean everywhere, was tube gear. Loose tubes, tubes in boxes, tube transformers, and a nice assortment of Scott, Fisher, Knight, Heath, Sherwood and other tube gear. I spent roughly two hours there chatting and just admiring the gear they had. On one wall was a row of oscilloscopes, on the back wall was an old display of some very old and HUGE tubes, one had to of been at least two foot tall, and several others nearly as tall, slowly descending in size to your standard 12ax7's. I was looking for some driver tubes for my amp, and I was shown black plate Telefunken, RCA's, Mullards and Bugle Boys among others, you won't see these on their website unfortunately due to customers trying to rip them off by returning bad tubes to them. However, if your ever in the Chicago area, need some nice and somewhat rare tubes I suggest you call in advance and they will get together what your looking for. The best thing about these guys is you never feel they are trying to sell you something, they ask you what you want and suggest something that will work. I have always received excellent service from Uncle Ned. I started using him for my guitar rig years ago before I got heavily into audio. In fact, I just ordered a fresh quad for my Fisher 400 today. :yes: Without even asking, he gave me a bit of history about the location. Great guy!

A guy with too many tubes
I've had great luck ordering stuff from them, and rotten luck when I try to visit them: either the store just burned down (really!!!), or they are closed /on vacation... I've never actually managed to set foot in the place. Great guys though. I like the de-mystifying attitude toward tubes.
I get there a couple times a year and it's always worth the trip from the lakefront via the bus. They are super nice guys and are always willing to dig around looking for something I need. One interesting thing I noticed was that they have a lot of old gear but they are fairly young guys. On one visit I took some time to tell them about some of the stuf they have. They had no idea what some of it was. Ahhhh, how I like to be needed. :lmao: Seriously, give them a try if you haven't already.

When I built up my ole Dynaco ST70 I bought my parts from Ned. Many vendors had upgrades such as this but for some reason Ned seemed to have the best. He was great to deal with. I called a couple of times with a few problems I was having and he was always there to speak with me. He runs a real store, not like many audio vendors on the internet that you see, working out of their garage and pretending to be a business.
