Trouble adding an EQ to Stereo Receiver

Hey y'all, I recently picked up a Mitsubishi DA-G157 EQ and I'm trying to hook it up to my Sony STR-DE545 Receiver. I'm tried almost every configuration possible with the RCA's but I can't seem to get it to work. Been researching this for hours now and I'm getting conflicting results. So here's my question.

I currently have the audio from my computer running into the "TV/SAT" input of my receiver via optic cable. So if I select "TV/SAT" on my receiver then the audio comes through, no problem there. However, in every configuration I've tried the EQ doesn't seem to effect the "TV/SAT" input nor the "Tape" input whether or not I have the "tape" button selected on the EQ.

So should my audio output from my computer actually be plugged into the EQ first? and then the output of the EQ be plugged into the Receiver? Or is my setup still wrong somehow? Or is my EQ just not working? And/or can I not run this without a preamp (ignoring the preamp within the receiver).

The problem is that modern receivers don't have tape loops (also known as a tape monitor), which means in most cases there is no way to direct the signal from a source component through your EQ. So yes, the only way to get it working with this receiver is to connect your source (the computer) to the EQ's input, then the EQ's output to an input (e.g. TV/SAT) on your receiver. Since the EQ has a tape loop built in, you can connect a second component to the tape play jacks, and use the Tape Monitor switch to choose between them. However, there is no way to equalize the built-in tuner or phono preamp of the receiver.
 
This receiver DOES have a tape loop (technically two if you include the video ports). The manual says that signals from digital inputs do not go to the tape outputs. That's why it won't work the way you have tried. You need to connect your computer to the receiver using RCA cables. That means you may need an external DAC. Connect your computer to the DAC, then you will have RCA (analog) output into the receiver (AUX or whatever input). Connect your EQ to the MD/Tape ports (MD/Tape out to EQ in, EQ out to MD/Tape in). Select your source. Then if you select "Tape," the signal runs through the EQ.
 
computer ->stereo mini->stereo RCA splitter->RCA Cables->EQ IN
EQ Out->RCA Cables->AVR (TV/Sat or other analog input)

You can try using the record input on the EQ for input and the playback for the output cable, then your monitor button might work to cut in or out the eq.
If you get a DAC at some point, then it would be Computer USB->DAC->EQ In

I was wrong. There's a first time for everything:)
 
Hey everyone, thanks for all the feedback. So what I ended up doing is running a 3.5 that splits into RCAs from my line out of my computer to the inputs of the eq, then the outputs ran into the aux of my receiver.
