troubleshooting advice

(not much of an audiophile obviously, but could use advice)

I have a Realistic STA-47 receiver hooked up to Aiwa turntable and Sony CD player. Sounded great.

Moved it to different room, still hooked up exactly the same, where it sat for a few weeks, now the volume won't increase. Crystal clear sound, just extremely low no matter how high you crank the volume.

I know sounds like an amp issue, but is there some little issue I might be missing that I can check?

Can't believe the amp just dies randomly with no indication of pending issues.

Thanks much

Sometimes they do! I just lost my Pioneer SA-8500 last week. Had it since the early 80's. Was sitting there listening to music at a low listening level when all of a sudden, it just turned off. I turned to look at the amp and the power light was still on but it acted like someone reached up and simply turned it off. No pops, no static, no warning, just off.

Checked it out and one of the output transistors let go. Yup! Just like that!

In your situation, check the muting or tape monitor switches. They could have gotten switched in when moving it to the next room.

I read you say it is hooked up the same way. I've been on autopilot when setting up equipment, and have make errors in where interconnects go. Make sure Phono to phono jacks etc.
Check that RCA jacks don't have any light corrosion. Try removing and reinserting interconnect cables. Deoxit contact cleaner or other plastic safe contact cleaner can be used for corrosion issues. There is a thread here on useing Deoxit, if needed.
