Turntable hook-up question

I have a G-9000, a Pro-Ject II phono preamp, and a Techincs SL-1200. My question is - how do I hook up the phono pre-amp to the amp? Do I plug it into the "phono 1" ports, or do I plug it into the 'AUX' ports? I have seen it both ways - which way will give the best performance and won't muck up my amp.

Thanks

mbz - I connected the turntable to the ProJect and the ProJect to the 'AUX' port - the volume is very low compared to the CD player - what is up with that?

CD players typically have much higher output.
Agree.
The phono signals are very low, especially the moving coil types, the phono stages provide extra amplification to bring
the signal up, closer to the other sources like CDP, however the end result depends on the gain of the phono stage.

You could try plugging the TT into the amps phono stage (without the project) and it will be quiter than CDP.
The loudness will depend on the gain of the amps phono stage.

Hopefully the music is loud enough with project->AUX,
