Turntable is making records sound out of tune...

I don't think that one is for me.

Seems like one vote for the Music Hall and one vote for the Rega. Which one has the better cardtridge?

I think the RP1 has the 2M Red, which is probably considered better than the Elektra aka Music Hall Tracker. The Red gets more press anyway. Either way these are entry level tables and there are many threads on people's thoughts on each. But no matter what they are entry level designed pretty much to get you to to shell out for the pricier tables. Six and one half dozen.

According to the site the OP is buying from, the RP1 comes with the Rega Carbon cartridge. I haven't heard the Carbon, but have liked other AT3600 variants. The Tracker is also a decent budget cartridge. As you intimated in an earlier post, I wouldn't base a purchasing decision on the included cartridge, whose stylus will likely be worn out and need replacing within a year or so anyway. You can always mount a better cartridge when desired.

To the OP

No matter which table you decide on, you need to realize that you are the one who needs to be happy with your turntable, not the members of this forum. You realized the shortfalls of your Carbon, and it sound like it was a defective table. My MMF does not have a wobbly platter, a motor that hums or any of the other issues mentioned here. The Rega RP1 and the MMF 2.2 are both good values in entry level tables. If you buy one without ever listening to the other one, and it meets your sonic needs, you will be happy.

Most of the folks giving you advice here are seasoned audio listeners, who have their own preferences. Having worked in the retail electronics field for many years, with either table you must consider if the rest of the equipment you will use with your choice, is of the same caliber.

As far as the cartridge is concerned, the Music Hall Tracker is neutral, open and durable. And a high quality made in Japan, Nagaoka made replacement stylus is available from Turntableneedles.com for a reasonable price.

The reason I ask about the cardtridge is because I won't be able to spend any more money on it for a while, so I'll be using this cardtridge for the forseeable future. Also, it seems like, quality-wise, the Rega and Music Hall are about even (from what I have read). Does either of them have a noticeable advantage over the other? Like does one have less wow/flutter than the other? Since that's what I seemed to take issue with on the Debut Carbon I had.

Before anyone throws me into a fire pit, have you considered the Audio Technica LP120? AudioKarma member Arcorob and others speak very highly of it. For an entry level table, which is what you're looking for, perhaps it's worth a shot?

I think I'm trying to keep it between the Music Hall and the Rega. Thanks for the suggestion though!

DAMMIT, for all the posts on this thread, NOBODY knows whether the damn thing is running on speed. Betcha it's not. Better find out. Otherwise, we're just wasting out time.

Cool! Rega has many fans. I like how easily upgradeable those tables are. Sometimes clear upgrade paths are really nice to have.

When are you getting it?

Yea that's one of the main reasons I'm going for that one. Hopefully I'll be getting it soon; I sent back the package on April 3rd, but the tracking information hasn't been updated since that date, so hopefully all is well.
