Tweeter Envy

The driver on the left is a K-76 from a Heresy II.

The one on the right is a K-75 from a Forte I.

The Forte tweeter is obviously bigger at 3-3/8" diameter vs. 2-7/8".

These two tweeters both take the same diaphragm and lens.

My question is, is there an even bigger motor that these parts will work with? Perhaps a K-79? Does anybody have the dimensions?

as far as I know the larger motor from the Forte is the same part known as a K79 I use K79's in all my Klipsch. The K79 mostly came with phenolic diaphragms though the Legend series KLF20 and KLF30 where both have K79 factory fitted motors with poly diaphragms which by the way sound awful. If I am in error I will apologize in advance as I am sure someone will correct me if necessary but I have only seen these two sizes. Best regards Moray James.

thanks moray, I heard that klipsch often assigns a new part number to an existing part when it is used in a different model. makes it pretty confusing, to figure out what is what for us diyrs.

There may be other drivers uses for these tweeters in the KG series of two ways. I have not owned any of the KG so I cannot provide any information there perhaps those who have owned both the KG's and the Heritage can comment. I like the K79 motor and lens when fitted wit the Ti diaphragm.
I am considering cutting off the mounting plate with its phase plug on the K79 tweeter horn and then mounting the plate onto a KLF20/30 mid horn which has had the screw on snout cut off. This way I will end up with a tweeter which has the identical horn as the mid driver and they will match perfectly at crossover and will be very easy to time align. The new tweeter can simply be mounted on top of the cabinet. Hope this idea is of interest. Best regards Moray James.

want to see a big tweeter?

Here is a sideways shot of my EV DH1A sitting on top of my Heresy 3. The DH1A weighs 23.5 pounds each. They sound very good. Three inch diaphragm two inch exit. The nose cup adapter is removable which results in a one point four inch exit driver. The paper tube is a simple Karlson K-Tube five point six inches long two inches in diametre. Kind of makes the K79 look silly huh? Best regards Moray James.
