Tweeter recommendations?

So I did a stupid thing and blew the tweets in my new to me pair of Revel F30. New factory replacements are 400 each. That's not an option given that I paid 800 for the speakers. So I'm looking for a nice tweeter that will integrate with the circuit, sound and esthetic of the F30 for 100ish each.

Luckily the tweeter is a fairly standard format with a 4" cutout, Edit: 4 ohm, & aluminum dome. The crossover is 24db @ 2.8 kHz and has a 4 position L pad for level control. I will be adding fuses for protection though.

Edit: since 4 ohm Emmits won't work. I'm open to about any design and I'm wondering if a pair of Emmit Ks would be a good choice as they'll bolt in with a little modding. I don't know if they'll be happy crossed that low though.

Thoughts and recommendations please?

TIA

Victor

Bet that's a proprietary tweeter modified by or for Revel. Doubt you'll find an off-the-shelf replacement that wouldn't necessitate some crossover modification. But $400 for a Revel replacement? That's outrageous.

Just because you paid $800 for the speakers doesn’t mean you can’t pay $400 for a replacement tweeter.

I paid $50 for my JBL 4311b speakers with a damaged mid. Does that mean I shouldn’t have replaced the mids with good oem parts for $200?

There is no relationship between initial cost and cost to repair.

@z-adamson I couldn’t disagree more. Your Jbl are vintage and will likely hold their current value or be worth more down the road. You paid a pittance for said speakers and claim only one mid was bad. Necessitating only one mid needing replacement for 100.00. At 150.00 for speakers your still well below what a working set is worth. OP paid 800.00 and speakers have 2 dead tweeters. Speakers are new enough to still be in depreciation and will likely not become collected like vintage Jbl. He paid 800.00 for them and if buying new tweeters from manufacturer he would be into speakers for 1600.00 on a set of 800.00 speakers that are still going down in value.

seems real dumb to me. I agree with OP’s idea of sourcing a pair of different tweets for 1/4 of the cost of new replacements.

Are we talking about listening to the speakers or are we in buy-sell-turn a profit mode?

If we are running a business here, then clearly investing more than can be had on the street for them is not a good business model.

If these are keepers and will be listened to daily for years then the investment to get them sounding right will pay off easily.

I know I have more money into some gear than I will ever get out of in a sale on the street. But it’s value in my house being listened to regularly justifies the investment.

Now if one is so low on funds that repairs can’t be made no matter what….that’s a different conversation.

I wonder if the F30 uses the same tweeter as the C30 center speaker? I found a C30 on eBay (not mine), and that appears to use a Peerless DQ25SC16-04 tweeter. It's has a smaller face plate, so it might not adapt to the F30?

Could you buy the Revel C560DT off ebay and install those two into your speakers?
Even with shipping from Aussie it's cheaper if the parts are comparable.

@z-adamson Pretty much all things I do come down to cost/value, except food and family! I had a 87 mustang gt conv. that had been in my family since new. It was mechanically stout but needed new top, some interior work and paint & some body rust repair... At a minimum 8,000.00 in work. I had lots of NOS parts to put on car to make it purdy again, but once installed they would have zero value. Approx value of parts was 4,000.00 So 12,000 into car that would likely not be worth 12,000 when all done as at said time an original unrestored car similar car with lower mileage could be had for less than 12,000.

What did I do?? Sold car for 4000.00 & Sold parts for 4000.00. I guess Im just a bean counter at heart!

Just by the looks those are 3/4" with tiny magnets. The originals are beefy20220924_114151.jpg

D26AG is a Vifa driver. I would focus your search on that part number, could be a stock Vifa (correction: ScanSpeak) part? Unless Revel modified it.

According to Madisound, this diaphragm is a replacement dome for the D2606 tweeter. It's a textile cloth dome, but it's also the replacement for the metal dome.

ScanSpeak voice coil

If a whole new metal dome tweeter is desired, this tweeter would work, again according to Madisound.

Seas tweeter

Ha! Madisound is using my picture on their website! :rflmao:This was back when I was replacing the diaphragms on my old Paradigms (Monitor 3v2 on the left, 9SE on the right). I guess I'm famous! (Both voice coils pictured were Paradigm-sourced BTW)

@StimpyWan & @Johnny_Law

Thanks! I think the Vifa is discontinued and the Scan Speak repair is 6ohm.

I don't know what that would do to crossover point etc.?
If all other parameters are the same, it will have a drop in output only. If all other parameters are not the same, voicing will be different on top of having a slight drop in output.

It’s unlikely all other parameters are exactly the same.

Crossover point won’t move. Response will.

I think your original tweeters are 6ohm? Can you dissect the ones you have and take pics of the diaphragm?

De-coding the D26AG-06-04 part number ...

I think D26 means 26mm
Not sure what the "AG" means.
06 means 6 ohms I believe [EDIT: WRONG! Thanks @GordonW ]
I forget what the 04 means. Maybe 4 mounting screws? Once upon a time I knew what it meant. Will investigate. [Edit: 4ohm! Thanks @GordonW ]

If I was low income, poor, experiencing financial distress….I would do the same.

Fortunately, when it comes to hobbies I don’t have to think about that. I just live life. You only live once you know.
