TWO Marantz TT-1000’s

Mag84ilfully

Young in spirit.
Bought one unit from a super nice fellow AK’er with the “Marantz” tonearm that is really a rebranded Micro-Seiki CF-1, I believe. Other one popped up on the ‘Bay as parts/repair untested right around the same time and the stars aligned just right to take ownership. Works perfect too but needs a tonearm. Eventually need to find or make power supply for one. Glass is on order for the second and looking probably going to have some suede mats made for both. Found a Marantz E9000/II cartridge that will be put on to match. And the other thinking about finding an SME series III or IV or V tonearm. I think the Series III was matching so might go with that.

Pretty sure these are rarer than a blue raspberry. Thought I’d never own one - I mean, two. Sure look cool and heavy as hell at 60lbs each! 940FCD95-810C-4AE1-9F39-FCBE3C407DC4.jpeg

Good find. I remember these. I set them up a few times when I was a bench tech at Marantz. We had 1 in the showroom with an SME III and a V15. I brought my LP12 in to do a head to head with the TT-1000.

Wow, a rara avis, and twice over score! Talk about a lucky windfall! Beautiful too. And part of the rare Esotec line.

Congrats! I have some Esotec amps/ pre and tuner. Still looking for the TT
Enjoy and keep us posted!

Marantz's last hoora From Marantz Japan. It's too bad the Esotic line only lasted for a year or so. There are some really rare pieces. A huge swing of the pendulum from the Philips made Marantz gear back then.

Thanks for the comments. Just installed the Marantz E9000/II cartridge and sounds good!

Some of the Esotec gear (including the TT-1000) are last of the last of Superscope Marantz, not yet Marantz Japan. Both have model number plates that indicate Designed in USA Produced in Japan, Chatsworth, CA. For the record (and that’s a pun), the serial #’s on these TT-1000 tables are under #10, both built in early 1980 so likely very, very few produced. I would fetch a guess the chance of acquiring two consumer electronics products after 42 years so close in production number likely means these tables overall sold very poorly. I also have the Esotec SM-1000 amp and similarly has the Chatsworth, CA model/serial plate and ditto on the Marantz ST-8 tuner. Hope to find the SC-1000 pre-amp to complete the set. The fun is in the chase!

Hi All,
I appreciate that it is 12 months later that I am responding to this post, however I have just joined up.
I have just taken delivery today of the TT1000 and will check the serial number when I build up the strength to lift the TT to see the plate.
My questions are
Dies anybody know how many of these TT were produced?
My set up has the TT-1000, SC-1000, SM-1000, ST-8 MKII, TS-1000 and it also has the Marantz HiFi Cabinet in the same finish wood as the pieces - I think cherry wood in gloss or rosewood?
I know my set up probably dates to 1980 as only the TT has the ESOTEC name on it. There is one shelf empty (well has the TS-1000 power supply on it at the moment) but I would like to add a cassette deck but not sure if Marantz ever made one in any year that would match these pieces, in champagne/gold. I have seen a Cassette deck in black from the same period.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance if anyone can

Colin
