Just picked ir up at GW ($20). All lights work nicely it pulls in stations just with a piece of wire and sound fine to my ears. The only cosmetic issue is that the thin layer of vinyl is peeling a bit on the rear of the top.

What do you guys think about this tuner?

Hi I have three of them, they work surprisingly well for a 2 gang FM stage. This tunner matches the SA 6700 and SA 7700 amplifier with the big twin meters. There is also the US Military model, the TX 606 that is the same inside but multi voltage. It has black meter faces and a light grey metal case instead of the fake wood. The peeling of the vineer film is very common, some poeple on AK have re-vineered them, with good results. The matching amplifier's are really hidden gems that don't get a lot of recognition because they are out of the mainstream pioneer line-ups. There is info on them here on the AK Pioneer data lists put together by the good Dr. Lastley these units are from 1978-79 I beleive. Let me know if you don't want it, I need one for parts for one of mine.
Thanks Wolfgang

I had a TX-6700 and SA-6700 for more than 25 years. Never had a complaint, and they always worked well.

Mine were part of the CE-11 component ensemble, which I ended up donating to AK some years ago (tuner, amp, cassette, speakers). It was used at one of the AK fests, and luvvinvinyl won it as a door prize. Ernie can tell you the rest of the story.

Thanks for both. The tuner actually works very well. The sound is not as great as my Sansui 717 or Marantz 2120 but for the money it was a good find. For now I will keep it.

Yey those big meters are kind of cool, I think that other than the spec 2 and 4 the SA7700-6700 are the only silver pioneer amps with analog meters. I also noticed that, the more we talked, that the price of them has gone up on the ##ay. It was rare to see a set over one bill for a long time.
Cheers Wolfgang
