I know that the “name your favorite album” thread ( best sounding or best songs) often comes up.
I have noticed that often the same 15-20 major albums seem to pop up : dark side of the moon, St Pepper, the Led Zep albums, Rumors……Kind of blue..).
Now these are all great albums but I wanted to start a tread of albums that are maybe a bit less known or recognized but have nevertheless super sonic qualities or excellent songs.

I will start. When I thought of Hendrix, “Axis bold” or “Experienced “ came to mind but I picked up “Hendrix in the west”that I thought would be just another OK postume live album.
Nope: The Sonics really blew me away! A great mix was done ( mine says RL sterling in the deadwax)
An un expected treat that I highly recommend! Sonics are brilliant and the songs are great.

Under the radar, seriously, do you guys live under a rock or something?

In the West was a staple on 8 track, Beautiful Loser was old hat in what 76, and Live in Japan was old news in 76 also!

Mark Nevers was the engineer on that one, he also did Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's - Master and Everyone, which is highly recommended for the sonics.

Hendrix in the West, has the best version of Red House I have ever heard. That start off with two leads and playing feedback, just floors me. Then when he is just flat out shredding, you say to yourself, "he can't go any higher on that guitar" then he does.
