Tempting, but a cut power cord could mean:

a) scap unit. Cord cut by tech to signify use for parts.

b) stolen unit. Thieves just cut power cords behind pieces in wall units for fast exit rather than digging around and moving things to unplug.

Still interesting for someone close by if you are willing to takes your chances....

Some recyclers cut off power cords as units come in regardless of working condition, or so I was told by a worker at one. There is a chance this could be fine.

I am going to try to pick it up tomorrow if its still there! What do you think? Good deal?

Even for parts I'd say it's good value.

Byrd is right, recyclers (or at least ones here) are required by law to cut the power cords, even if a thing tests ok. It's to indicate that the unit is sold for parts and isn't subject to any warranty or right-of-return laws.

Thanks for the info about recyclers. My experience comes from working in a stereo shop where people would sometimes show up at the service department with machines they had just gotten a really good deal on that needed a new power cord.

I don't think we had recyclers back then. Apart from the ones that recycled stereos and cameras in the local bars!

I just heard back from the seller. He says there is a lot of interest in the receiver and it would be best to get to the store early. Too bad I work until 5pm at which point the store is already closed and I live 1 hour away. I hope another AK'er can get it.

Ask if they could hold it for you for an additional small sum?

Seller is "Tech Heaven". Wouldn't you think a seller with that name would be able to rig a power cord for testing?:scratch2:

Just my $.02 worth here but a few years ago, I won an online auction for a pallet of stereo receivers from a local recycler. There were 11 receivers and one tape cassette deck. Every power cord was cut off and every single unit powered up and worked once the power cord was replaced.

I'd say roll the dice and go for it if you can make arrangements with the seller for pickup.
