Vintage KLH 5 Specifications

I am seeking to find the specs for this speaker. Information such as ohm rating, frequency response, min and max wattage, crossover frequencies and anything else I may have left out. This is specifically for the vintage model 5 and not the new one, which is made in China. I look forward to any and all responses.

Tons of info on those speakers do an internet search of "KLH Model 5 specs" also the AK search feature is great resource as well.

Or you can just look at the bottom of this page in the "Similar Threads" section

All of the KLH Model 5 spec searches are for the new speaker, not the vintage. I did find some vague, general information that these are 8 ohm and the amplifier should be at least 25 watts, but not much else.

Look here.

The specs for the older model five were never published if I remember correctly. What is it that you are actually trying to determine, and why.
They can be restored with original value capacitors, new correct sealant on woofers, all seams and driver mounts sealed, pots cleaned, and you should thoroughly enjoy them! They can handle a good amount of clean power, but let your ears determine when you may be nearing the danger zone. :music:

Just wanted to know to eliminate the ignorance that I have for the design and testing specs for these speakers. This would be important information for speaker/crossover repair, rebuild or replacement.

Please read my previous post again.
Original component values are just fine, replace with the same values and type in my opinion. Don't overthink restoring a wonderfully designed speaker. Keep it simple and they will perform as designed.

Ennek a hangszórónak a specifikációit keresem.

Old thread, I can tell you the crossover is fiendishly complex, if you recap with poly films you need to add 2 ohms of resistance before the cap or things will be bright. The tweeter sucks. A CTS, look on ebay for a Marantz or Jensen oem tweeter, cheapest way to find them, I think PE dropped them. Or find a 87-88ishdb dome tweeter. They play really deep, need to be near a wall. Some nice copper beryllium domes on ALiEx. These are power hungry, about 87db, but do sing once they get rolling. Honestly the best mod for this speaker is a 500hz 2 way x-o and just run one mid as a mid/tweeter. Those mids are from the Model 20 something full range speaker, about 4 light coats of spray polyurethane tames the mid shout and they are FE103 killers.

The mids need to be treated with AR sealant just as the woofer does. Much improvement. Untreated they are harsh.

Polyurethane i do not recommend.

Yeah, back in the day I ruined a set of 12TRXb with the wrong goop. Also new cloth surrounds are available as well as rubber vs foam. Cloth is the "loosest" suspension. A rainy day project is something not cloth for a Diffusicone8. PS if OP is still watching, if you are going to play with speakers a must have is a Dayton DATS tester, not expensive although it will not work with a phone, you need a laptop or tower. With sealed speakers the system resonance is usually 50% more than the cut off. Having said that I just tested my main frankenspeakers, these play down ridiculously low and the system resonance is 67hz. Hope all got to unwind and play music this weekend.
