VPI-HW19 mk4 needs hinges….

So I’ve been restoring the above mentioned VPI HW-19 mk 4 and have it all back together including the original (to it) Audioquest tone arm. However I bought a repopped dust cover but can’t seem to find hinges anywhere…. Tried VPI, EBay, google search…. All yielded no results, so I’m wondering if anyone out there has a pair, knows where a pair is, replacements or hacks that work?

Well, I had a similar issue with my AR The Turntable, I used three hinges to carry the weight. I bought the replacement hinges from Dave Archbald (Vinyl Nirvana). If the slot is remotely close, using three or four across the back should support the heavy cover. Just a thought. Good Luck

I don't have an answer regarding the hinges and I hope I'm not bursting your bubble but what you have isn't a mk4. The mk4 has a stainless/acrylic subchassis and a separate thick acrylic armboard, and a heavy lead impregnated platter. Do an image search on the browser of your choice and you'll see what a mk4 should look like. Someone used a mk4 wood base and installed parts from what looks like HW19 jr model.

I would guess that you will still be removing the cover when you are playing vinyl. So, in that case all you need is to secure the cover while it rests on the table to prevent it being knocked off or into the arm.
I would suggest two simple straight flat arms (tabs if you will) secured through the existing screw holes to the cover with a rubber gasket between the tab and the cover. The tabs would slide into the hinge slots that are on the back of the table.
You could use aluminum, plastic or plexiglass, whatever you want. I would also use plastic washers under the screw heads. Here is a quick drawing of the tabs and gasket as a visual aid.


That should keep your table safe until you can source hinges you like.

Great idea!! Thank you!!! I have sourced some hinge parts from VPI but it’s just the metal work…. So it’s missing the springs and pins that hole the springs and hinge pieces together.

you may want to consider just lifting the dust cover off. Leaving it on either in the open position via hinges or set back in place while the record is playing creates a large echo chamber for the record being played.
