I opened up my TC366 which loses speed when near the end of the tape. So I thought yea run capacitor.
So I pulled the back off.
Then the run cap was easy to spot. It was the cap connected to the motor.
OK so it has a plastic cap on top.
That cap seems to have melted wax in it. Worse yet was there was a candle like drip and cool collection of wax on the back panel - presumably it was used lying down a lot.
So now what is filled with wax ? was the plastic cover for the capacitor filled wth wax ?
Is the capacitor itself filled with wax ?
Now The capaciter looked fine ? I guess it can still be low on capacitance.
It was a 1.5uf 250 wv cap, and rather big. Can I substitute a modern electrolytic for it, which may be very small ?
Can I exceed the capacity ?
And can I exceed voltage ?
Thanks.
Srinath.
