There is analogy I think is valid with issues in the military with what I posted previously about technology and information and it's delivery and how it affects the kids.

Since the end of the Korean war, troops are mainly flown into combat and back home. So from the hell of war into their homelife in a matter of hours. Compare that to WWII soldiers spending weeks with their comrades on ships, sharing stories. The ability to talk and relate on the long trip back allowed them to cope.

Kids do not spend any time pondering, contextualizing, allowing information and experiences to reach a place of deeper understanding. That is a skill that is disappearing faster than clean air.

This is a generalization that I have learned from coaching middle school and high school kids for 25 years and teaching classroom science for 15.

Exceptions are not enough to balance this out.

I think that is the main point - regardless of the why and how.

And we each have an opportunity to, as Bruce Cockburn said, "kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight."

It is no ruder than it was before, it just seems it is. Again, EVERY GENERATION SAYS THE SAME THING. It is not the EDUCATION SYSTEM, IT IS THE PARENTS NOT BEING INVOLVED. it was no different in the past, it was the Movies, then Music, well, you get the idea.

People need to be responsible and not be victims. That is all people do now, 'Not my fault, it is schools, the way I was raised, etc'. You have choices in your life, make choices wisely.

It's that devil music. Always that devil music!

How can people think it's worse now than in the past ?

We're practically spoiled. Indoor plumbing, electric power in our homes. No food lines. There hasn't been a wide scale genocide for a couple of generations.

Wow Chris, I see that touched you deeply as it would have me as well. It just seems as society evolves there's a tendency to ramp up the hype factor to interest those of a mind set for what is against the grain.

It's a shame that there are people who would have loved to have that footage of a human life being destroyed no matter what caused him to seek to end his embedded in the memory of their devices instead of shouting like "Don't Do It Let's Talk About It" or such to let him see there is another way to find solace for the pain.

I would never take part in such an act, so all we can do is teach those around us who will listen that civility & compassion is still a virture worth living by.
