Webcor Score

This one takes me back... Picked up a mono Webcor "educator" at a local church thrift fair. Pictures below. Anyone know where I can find a schematic? So far I'm not having much luck.

Cheers,
Tony

What are your plans with webcor? If you want to recap the amp you should be able to do that without a schematic. If i had it i would recap it and try my guitar through it. She should sound pretty sweet with records also.

If you open it up you may well find a schematic pasted or stapled inside. It was pretty common for manufacturers to do that back when that was made.

If not with two 12AX7 and 2 6V6 it can't be very hard to figure it out. If stereo then SE pentode mode is almost certain. If mono then there are only so may ways to do the phase splitter so should become pretty clear in short order. Post a couple of gut shots and someone will no doubt be able to get you in the ball park.

Pretty cool, & it looks to be in great condition. :thmbsp: You called it mono, but with 2 speakers, I'm hoping for your sake you were mistaken. I have an old mono reel to reel, Wollensak if I remember right (says Revere/ 3M on the handle), that was clearly marked as a school system loaner. They built them sturdy back then, had to. :D

It might be stereo but I doubt it. I don't see a balance control, and the tube diagram shows only one of what looks like an OPT. I think it's mono with separable speakers to fill the classroom.

Thanks for the reply's! It's been sitting in the storage room for a while now. I've got it on the back burner until later this winter. It's definitely mono, but allows you to add the 2 speakers to fill an auditorium with sound. I did throw it on my poor mans variac, and it works fine. No hum, but definitely mono. It will get a full recap and I'll make sure to post some pics. I'll poke inside for a schematic, but my first look didn't turn up anything. I have a friend who plays in a band that's been eye'n it. He likes the idea of mixing vocals, guitar and vinyl.

Cheers,
Tony

im in with some of the others, you may not need a schematic.

providing nothing has burned up, you should be able to read the info right off the old parts. i've rebuilt quite a few console amps without the need of a schematic.

the speakers may be the shortcoming on that unit. they may be tuned to voice freqs. once its rebuilt i'd try it on a decent cab and see what you get.

OTOH, the speakers may well be Jensens that are highly coveted as guitar amp speakers. The whole piece could become a killer guitar rig... 12AX7/6V6 a la Fender Deluxe, a pair of Jensens in cabinets that can be spaced for more dispersion, seems like a nice rehearsal/small gig rig to me.

I have a Bogen Vp-17 that i converted to a Fender Deluxe. Nice and sweet sounding but the cabinet was shot so i had to improvise. It was my first conversion so its not pretty but it screams . The cabinet had a Jensen p15 smooth speaker.
5Y3 rectifier
2 x 6V6gt RCA smoke bottle
1 x 6Sl7 Phase inverter
1 x 6sc7 preamp

I think thats the tube layout i used.

The record player was shot on this unit or i would have left it alone and played records with it.

If you have any Harp playing buddies they would love to plug into that unit.

I think it looks great. I bet it sounds even better. Good job! :thmbsp:

Check these out.

Stromber Carlson to a fender Pro and an organ amp to a Matchless Spitfire

Baddog07, I have some questions. I just picked up one of these as well for the intention of converting it into a guitar amp. Somebody bought the turntable off of it already, so I didn't have to worry about tearing it apart!

What exactly did you have to modify on it to make it a "Fender Deluxe"? Did you just recap\replace resistors on it?

Also, the guy I bought it from threw in a reverb tank off of an organ as a "free gift". I am decent at fixing issues with antique radios, etc., but I don't know anything about amplifier\tube theory\design. Would it be relatively easy to add this to the amplifier? Would it be done through the radio-phonograph section or the microphone section, etc.

I don't know much about amps as far as guitars go, as I am a beginner. Just thought you could shove me in the right direction.

Thanks!

Weber and VOM shared alot of stuff and some of their products look the same with different names.
That amp looks like a VM 500 series. Makes a FANTASTIC guitar amp.
2- 12ax7's means you can even run a reverb.

Even if its not A VM, it looks like you cant go wrong. :thmbsp:

Sorry it took so long to reply:tears:
I pretty much gutted the hole thing and started from scratch. I had to buy new pots and tryed to use as much of the old stuff as possible. Now i trealize that alot of the old stuff isnt worth using ( resistors , caps , ect. ) unless you have a good capacitor tester. To me the most important part is the chassis and tramsformers. You wouldnt think so but some of these old amps ( organ, VOM , stromber Carlson , ect ) have some really nice mojo to them. I think that was my first build and i was really suprised it worked and still works . I got alot of help at Weber Speakers http://www.tedweber.com/ A great bunch of guys that are happy to help. Here is the forum http://www.tedsforums.com/forum/. I Also got my schematics and laypout at http://www.schematicheaven.com/index_HTML.htm. You need to be carefull in these amplifiers because of the stray voltages that are in there even if the amplifier isnt pluged into the wall.
Have you tried pluging in to the mic input to see waht it sounds like. Its been so long that i done even remeber :smoke: I would imagine that you could change the resistor at the input to a 68k like fender used and you might be happy. Let us know how its going and ill see if i can help with any question you might have.

As far as the reverb tank question you have . Im not really an expert on this stuff either . I mostly gut the amplifier and install a tried and true design by fender , gibson or some other amp builder and see how it sounds. The weber sight might be able to help with that question

Keith
