This album is not mine. I wish it was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well...ya don't see this very often for sale. I've never seen one for sale, ever. I've never even seen a photo of one. Sure would be nice to have that in a nice frame on the wall!!

Robert Johnson, 78 rpm record: "Terraplane Blues" and "Kind Hearted Woman Blues".

Just thought you guys would like to see it! I'm 'always looking' thru all those 78 bins for a copy of any of his 'extrememly limited southern blues 78s'.

I think it will be 'a bit beyond my price range', I'm married and if I bought it the wife would never be able to figure that one out, she'd think I'm really crazy, and I'd never hear the end of it, ever. LOL If I wasn't married...I go to $1400 max, ok, $1500, and not a penny more, and not eat for 6 months!! LOL. I'd rather have that record than a new amp!

It will be fun to see what this record sells for. I've always wondered. I've 'heard' sometimes they go for like $2000-3000, or more.
He's only the bluesman who invented rock and roll out of his brain in the 30's. It was his personal 'style' and he didn't even know it cause it was just 'his way' of playing and singing the blues. Robert Johnson is the guy E. Clapton and K. Richards, etc., learned 'that style' from and both have stated so and given him the credit.

So far, 1112 people have checked it out, 12 hours to go. A bit of 'True Music History'.

Shipping is a little expensive though, $10.10! I think I would pay a bit more to have it shipped securely!

If you don't know about Robert Johnson, go to Yahoo Image and click on a few photos and you will find out all about him. There are only 2 photos of the man in existance. Find another photo and it would be priceless!

I have no idea who the lucky bastard was who pulled that out of a dusty old record stack; but I hate his guts.

What a killer find. I am SOOOOO jealous!!!

Pilotputz: it is just - too - much, isn't it!!!!!!! I'm still thinkin about it. My brain is 'stuck' on it.

And that is exactly what happen. The guy sellin it is selling many 78s. He probably just bought some old collection somewhere and ... there it was, in with the rest of em. I mean...how lucky can a guy get???????????

Yes...what a killer find!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm soooooooooo jealous and envious toooooooooooooooooooo. But I sure wouldn't be sellin it!! It would be MINE! His opening bid was $200 or so, so it's 'obvious' that he didn't even 'really know' what he had found, he had an idea, but he didn't know. His opening bid would of been $1000. But I bet he's freakin now.

I have often wondered if I have any of these records in my collection. With 78's I have no idea how to tell which are valuable or which to pitch. I just like the ones with vocals. I would be very afraid to ship that record, 78's are soooo easy to break. Having a 2-3grand record in my home would be a bad thing, me shipping one would also be a bad thing.

The seller appears to not really know that this record is something special. They put the same "gouge them now" shipping price on this the same as any 78 that might have a smidgen of interest.

The record is certainly cool. If you pay $2000+ for a 78, do you actually play it?

:drool::drool::drool:
I don't collect things for the sake of having something collectible, but that is something I would really love to own.

Edit: Yes, I would play it. Probably not often, but I would absolutely play it.

This isn't crazy. This is a real piece of history. As direct a connection as one can get to one of the most important figures in American music.

If I had that kind of disposable income,I wouldnt hesitate to bid sky high on that one.Its not like having a certain label color or a certain rare pressing of a common record. This is about the music, and a signpost of where music was heading.

Checked Popsike. Some Rob't Johnson 78s have fetched up to $5000. Heck, even a Columbia 6-eye LP from 1961 fetches around a grand (THAT is crazy. I have the same LP from the '70s, not worth nearly as much.) On the other hand, numerous 78s of his have gone in the hundreds, including many test pressings.

I just like the ones without vocals.

Missed out, my friend just sold 500-700 records all from classical composers for a couple hundred. I didn't have the space to bring them over here. I do have a ton of brand new Victor Orthophonic recordings all classical.

I sometimes listen to classical 78s but mostly I like old jazz instrumentals. More often than not they have Fox Trot on them instead of Jazz though. If I stumble across a 78 at a thrift with "Instrumental Fox Trot" on it I'll pick it up even if it's completely trashed. If I saw one with "Vocal Blues with Guitar Acc" at a thrift I'd probably soil my shorts.

Dip me in treacle and set me alight.

I came here to post something (found the answer to negate my post) and thought hey, I'll read a couple threads first. Now I want to go to bed and suck my thumb.

'nite boys.

Robert Johnson... loved his liquor. We have the box set of his stuff on CD, got to dig it out tomorrow.

How many of these do you think have been put up for public sale? Blues hounds around the country must be howling. I'd bid the moon to get it.

How many have come up? Not a clue, even an inkling of a clue. I couldn't sleep anyway so I'm going to see the end of that auction before trying again.:tears:

Wonder what my 1970s Foghat album w/"Terraplane Blues" onnit's worth then ?!? (grin) Never knew back in the day that it was that old of a song-But I kinda wondered why a Seventies group would be referencing a rather obscure mid-Thirties car...

keep on tanglin with your wires
I'm on get deep down in this connection
hoo-well keep on tanglin with your wires
And when I mash down your little starter
then your spark plug will give me a fire."

And people went crazy over "Let's spend the night together"?
