Well... I finally did it , sold it all off and now what???

My hat is off to you. I have been recently thinking that I would like to purge everything and build one nice system. Thanks for the encouragement. It's difficult to just sit back and enjoy the music.

One of the things I will miss will be pulling down an old receiver and choosing one of my various sets of speakers and experimenting. I'm not very technical , beyond the deox process and a few tricks I have mostly learned here , I can't do even medium repairs. I found that I stopped doing this experimenting some time ago, all the project amps I will likely never have time for? I found when selling off that several pieces of equipment that worked as they should before we're no longer. I did make quite people happy , made a few new connections and started up some new HIFI enthusiasts.

Look man, you can still do that kind of stuff with a fraction of the number of pieces you had before. Now you take a different approach. Grab a set of those Adam Jones Pioneers. Build some open baffle speakers. Find a deal on a sweet little tube amp. Sooooo many exciting possibilities beyond silver faced receivers and vintage speakers. And that stuff is always going to be there if you decide you'd like to revisit it. Main thing I see is now you can give whatever you're taking for a test ride a much better environment to reveal what it's really capable of. You're sonic landscape just went from toxic dump to fertile field.

I can relate to the desire for a minimalist system these days... can't wait to see what ecandle comes up with here! Good move.

Thanks guys , my priority now is setting up electrical power , I had 4 power strips plugged into each other , and such a fire hazard it was unreal. I plan on good lighting and more of a minimalist set up. I kept my ARs ,FET one pre and SA1 monoblocks.

So you didn't sell it all!
Glad to hear you got your priorities straight though. 4 power strips plugged into each other is a fire waiting to happen. Good for you in taking the initiative to do things right before disaster strikes:thmbsp:

They look like "Skechers"

I have a pair exactly like that, in brown.

OP, you have a lot of inquiring minds asking a lot of inquiring questions. Are you keeping us in suspense? ;)

Indeed , they are a Steve Madden prototype of the original Sketchers.

I hear that Bose makes a radio that will fill a room with wondrous sound. You can hook up a iPod to it too!

BOSE Acoustic Wave is on my Top 100 choices, I will keep it a secret as to where it is on the list. Thanks for the advice

while discussing purging, 'candle should show his bike barn.

Oooh, this should be interesting.....:lurk:

Really, I admire your conviction. You have stepped back and looked at the whole and decided it no longer matched your priorities. You have a plan and a path. I will enjoy watching your progress and look forward to the end result. :music:

Now what? Here you go:

As much as I liked the journey I have no desire to do it again.

When I made this statement I was under the impression you got rid of EVERYTHING.I'm all for what you did.Keep a few choice pieces and get rid of the rest. All that clutter certainly had to have a negative affect on the sound.Like I said though I am not going through this again.Keeping my choice pieces and fine tuning.I'm ready to finally listen and be done.

Anyway, someday, and it will come, I will have to sell the house, sell the car.

go to a house for the elderly and... sell all gear I own.

You have to do it someday.

I don't think that's the case here, he wants to redo his collection, but the

basic move is the same.

Better to try it while still young.

I second you, Ecandle, you have guts !

That broke my heart. It's true, but it still hurt me for you, or whomever. All of us are in that boat if we live long enough, I suppose.

You're talking about dope, right?

I had that same fleeting thought.

Well; obviously.

;)

I, too, chuckle every time I see JesusChrysler. Quality humor.

To Ecandle, I had considered starting a thread concerning my own overloaded music room. Me and the wife remodeled about 6 months ago, and I did shitcan most of the silly brickabrack that was cluttering things up.

However, I STILL have too much gear, and have come to realize just how pleasing and fulfilling something as simple as those Andrew Jones speakers + my little SA-98E SMSL chinese amp and a good tt.

Total game changer for me. My JBL L100T3's sit unused....same with both pair of NS690 yamahas...and my HPMs.....and my Infinity's....and my Marantz...... on and on.

At 41, with horrible tinnitus, I just want to listen and enjoy, but I'm not as brave as you.

Will be watching and enjoying your ride.

When I found that I had not one place to put another thing , every Nook and crack was filled with gear. I was sitting there after getting a coffee table recently and I saw that I had equipment already stacked 3 high 2 wide literally in my lap. I decided then enough is enough, I have a shelf area in the far back of the room I will reserve for "spares" and trade stock . But my plan is that if it won't fit in this small area then I need to strongly consider saying no :tears: I also believe that I will find in this process a serious sound quality gain and maybe prevent a fire.

Couldn't you have just built another room onto your house?

Great job. I am in the same headspace, time to unload completely and start this all over from scratch. Knowing alot more now then I did when I accumulated everything I have now, should make this a far different journey. Thanks for the final push I needed.

My Threshold SA1 Monoblocks arrived safely Tuesday and I am burning them in at the office , I have owned the FET One for many years, this will be my preamp , The Bryston Music server and the BDA-2 DA I purchased brand new from Fred's Sound of Music here in Portland, this will serve as my digital interface as I got rid of my PC based music server all together. Note that besides my VPI record cleaner , the Bryston's are my only significant "brand new" purchases that I can recall in 20 years.

Electrical work starts tomorrow, I will post pictures tomorrow night

Oh man, those are niiiiiice. With the S/500, the FET and those you're building an impressive Threshold collection. Very anxious to see what you choose to suck the power from them.

I see why you have an electrician coming over, 4 daisy chained power strips would last about 10 seconds before bursting into flame with those monsters :thmbsp:

The poor speakers that are on the receiving end of all that power. Those amps look like they could really hurt something. Nice! :D

Have fun. I think it took guts. I know how difficult it is even to purge unused records. Can not imagine all that gear.
