Were there any good Scott speakers

I'll be 70 soon and have picked up many speakers over the decades. I probably had 3 pairs come and go. I never did anything but redope one pair, but none of the speakers were great,, they are just OK. Are there any vintage Scott speakers flying under the radar? Thanks. Norm

Not an expert, but after a brief web search, it looks like the 186, 196 and 197 speakers are at least well made. Here's an excerpt from the Audio mag equipment directory from October '77; MSRP is the rightmost column.

The Pro-100 looks the most interesting, it has the same driver makeup as the 197 but with an additional midrange and tweeter on the top.

S186 look interesting. Also the Audiophole Series One seem to also have a Philips tweeter paired with a 6.5" woofer. Don't know if that small of a speaker would interest you.

I had a pair of 208-d years ago. Very nice sounding, not room fillers iirc. Great imaging.

They're on the very short list of speakers I'd repurchase. Can't speak to any other model.

The deceptively pedestrian looking HH Scott S-15 amazed me. Just a nice little loudspeaker that is easy to drive and sounds like music.

Agreed. Can't remember where I got mine from but they were either free or dirt cheap, and cosmetically in great condition. I pulled back the grille cloth, looked at the drivers and thought "ugh, no way these sound any good". Well. I was wrong. They're very pleasant sounding speakers.

I just placed an order for some caps for two Scott s-11's I found at Savers last month.

They are heavy, and the surrounds (rubberized) are in one piece...recapping just because these date from 1967 or so, and that is fifty years ago.

The caps are black, with a red end, NT I think.

Replacing with Dayton metallized polypropylene....one 10uf and two 5uf.

The inductors are massive, one looks like 18/20 ga magnet wire.

I did hook them up and run them, sounded ok, but I'm sure they'll sound a lot better with the new caps.

I picked up a pair of these off of the curb. Woofers were toasted so I just replaced them and they sound pretty good, surprisingly.

I'm looking at a pair of Scott S-11D ??? The S is in black but the 3 numbers are punched. I don't know the exact model but they have a 3-way high frequency switch on the back. They look "very interesting" but not sure what they are worth.

This is on ebay >>> Pair Vintage H.H. Scott Model S-11D 3 way Speaker System Great Condition VG
Listed at $250

Figure it's over its priced so if you find it for less then it depends on condition and if you like the sound.

The set for sale near me is asking $100. The wood looks perfect. I really like the vintage look. No capacitors were updated not sure about the woofer foam. I really like how they look but I can't find a place to use them, that is, justify buying them. I'm trying to cut back on stuff but that doesn't always work.
