wharefdale W60???? Melton???

As with many products small changes are implemented during the production run.So also with the Melton.
The first version-of which I have a pair-have hardwired crossovers(no PCB),values are apparently changed with time and the two different tweeters.
Size of the box is also changed slightly.
Drivers changed from being mounted from behind to being mounted from the front.
Both drivers changed their position on the baffle.
Binding posts were also changed.

The first version looks like this:
Note that the coil values probably are determined by the color.Cap is 6uF.Resistor is 22 ohms.
Size of the box is 53,6x33x26 cm.
Also note the rather high position of the woofer and that the tweeter(the famous purple fried egg)is centrally mounted.

Thanks, Rolf... Good to hear from you... We don't see too many Meltons here in the states. Mostly W*O models, XP's, and E*0 series models, with the occasional SFB's or corner cabs popping up every once in a teal-covered moon.

I always wondered exactly what to call that thing next to the cap on the OP's crossover, the little capacitor-like part that overheated. That's a RESISTOR? Or is there a different name for it?

Nobody knows this, but I actually only stick with the older speakers because they just have like 5 or 6 parts to the entire crossover at best, something even I might be able to handle. I just TELL everybody it's because of the great sound. I couldn't imagine dissecting the crossovers on much later speakers, like the big Infinities or something like that. If I had to do the caps in a pair of DCM Time Windows, I'd probably shoot myself.a

I dont really know how to wire two caps in place of 1 so I will probably use a 5.6uf, if that is o.k?
Otherwise, between you helpful folk I think I have all the info I need to have these Meltons (funny name) sounding good again.

You wire the two in series, right? Not parallel?

Can we get a ruling on this?
 
The resistor is a metal oxide resistor, probably rated at 5 watts. Get a Mills 12 watt in whatever value you decide on. It will solve the overheating problem.

With capacitors, in order to get a larger value from smaller capacitors, you wire them in parallel. Thus, I suggested a 2.7 and a 3.3 to get 6.

It is the opposite for resistors. If you needed 2 ohms but only had 1 ohm resistors, you would wire them in serial.

However, if you needed 0.5 ohm and only had 1 ohm resistors, you would wire them in parallel.
