I have a pair of Melton II's, which are a bit different to yours. Instead of the purple donut tweeter, mine have a 1.5" Mylar film Alnico unit, and a slightly different woofer. I think yours may be alnico. The baskets are all cast aluminum.

IMO, they're not that great - I gave mine to my dad to use in his computer room. Mating that 12" woofer with that tweeter means a bit of a hole in the midrange, and whilst the bass is well controlled, it doesn't go that low. For vocals though, they seem to do rather well.

If they're cheap enough I'd grab them simply because the cabinets are beautiful! It's easier to swap out the drivers than to build a nice cabinet like that, and they may sound pretty good as is.

They are OK, but certainly nothing special. The mylar tweeters are prone to failing, if they haven't already, and as Munkey said, there's a bit of a hole in the middle. The cabs are pretty, like chaz said, but you can probably do lots better, unless you want to gut them and go the DIY route.
