What are the other '70's little guys (receivers)?

little fellas

It's the first few watts that matter. I'll throw in for the 1000x- warm but clean. I love the smaller guys- I got an hk330i- (not as nice as the earlier 330s but still good) a Pioneer 580, an Onkyo tx20, a Yammie cr420 ( neutral and balanced) and a Marantz 1060 I've loved for about 30 years.

BOTL Receivers

My first receiver was a Pioneer SX-450 (15 wpc) hooked to Zenith Allegro speakers and I have nothing but fond memories of that unit. In a standard sized room it was plenty loud with very little distortion and was very solidly built to boot...

Lafayette LR-3500, LR-2200

Blue dials, tuners that suck signal in like a dyson and have the "sounds like tubes though I never heard tubes" sound

They are fantastic. (yes I have a 330C and 730 also. Very sweet)

:music:
TRUTH.... I have the same two models. Wish I could confirm the OEM. Seems to be some varied opinions.

The Pioneer SX-424 is a sharp looking and nice sounding little receiver.

I think the Sansui 5050 is the nicest BOTL receiver I've owned and it hangs in there well with the rest of the x0x0 line. Here's a picture of my Sansui x0x0 stack with the Sansui 5050 on the top:

I remember this stack from years ago.Am I safe in assuming you have moved on from this Sansui stack?

Ha ha, a BLAST from the past Superdog!~ We used to stumble over gear like that every weekend at random garage sales here, those were the days. I still have those terrific Sansui receivers including a mint 9090DB - packed away in the original box with the plastic sticker still on the faceplate. I rotate in and listen to Sansui gear in a basement system including an AU 20000 I used today as a preamp with a Crown amplifier, driving a pair of Carver Amazings but the main listening is on the gear in my signature.

Yeah those were the days.I too would find something every other week and coming here to AK to report and get info was a blast back then.Quite different now.I would have thought you moved those Sansui out as you gravitate to newer gear.Cool that you kept them.I'm partial to Sansui but have only kept my 890db out of about five Sansui I had.Just too much gear and not enough room for it all.Never heard a Sansui I didn't like.Cheers.

Late to the party I too second the Lafayette LR 3500. Pushing two sets of stacked epi 100's all day. Built like a tank but classy looking with real wood. Also have heard that these were outsourced by another company.

I couldn't be happier with my Sansui 661 receiver. Early 70s and a mere 27 watts per channel. Beautiful warm sound that I can listen too all day long.IMG_1515.JPG

Pics?

I just picked up my first Pioneer, a SX 680 at 30 wpc. I really like that a lower end unit has the meters. Sounds very similar to my Realistic STA 85 and Kenwood KR 4600, all around 30-35 watts. I have a modern Sony HT receiver in the living room for movies etc but for music I use the vintage 2 channel systems.

On it's way to his new house, coupled with a Braun L500/1 speakers.

I had a Realistic STA-430 that I really liked, 10 wpc.
Really strong sounding at low volume levels.

I currently have a Sherwood S7100-A (18W/ch with 2 speakers) in my bedroom that sounds really nice.
Very well constructed. The walnut veneer and cast/machined aluminum knobs give it a feel of quality.

I have a Pioneer Sound Project 300 with matching speakers in storage that my bro got at an Air Force exchange in Japan. Cute entry level well made black dial silver receiver.

I have a Yamaha A-450 integrated amp, 30 WPC. I used it in my office for years. Connected to a pair of Advent 4002s it kicked out the jams. It's on the patio now driving my outdoor speakers. It's never been serviced but still sounds great. I need to replace the input selection lights someday.

I have a Sherwood S-7100A I bought new back in '73, my first stereo. It has some long and hard hours on it but still sounds great and is in use today. Never had a problem until about 2 years ago the volume pot got scratchy, not knowing at the time I almost destroyed it by cleaning. Now I have a clean control knob that doesn't operate as smoothly as it did. Self-inflicted wound! Great receiver though.

I can't believe there isn't a replacement switch/pot available to replace these with, its the only drawback to these units.

In another thread, 10 pages, 35 watt limit, receivers there was a list on page 10 in this post:

Seems all but a dozen or so are listed.
