What are you Listening To Right Now? - and more

Difficult one, since none of my system is what you might call state of the art, including my ears. I’d go with female vocals and orchestra so probably Annie Haslam - Still Life. The acid test of music seems to be what it feels like rather than what it sounds like so if the expected eargasms are missing, the system is probably wanting. My copy is on CD (Japanese) although at least one person here has the vinyl. Can’t remember who.
I tend to use music that I am VERY familiar with for testing....Aqualung is probably the one I go to most. I know what I expect it to sound like.

RE the snow in Central Mass, I am not sure we ever had the "white out" conditions they warned of over night, was up several
times and while snowing hard, I could see around the street from our windows pretty good...then again, I wasn't trying to drive
in it! Still snowing now, but light, maybe just this side of "flurries," but there is a pretty stiff breeze blowing it all about. 18 degs,
BRRRRR!

People must be actually staying in and home, no traffic other than plows on our semi-main street, not the sound of one snow blower!
@Bill Ashton It was blustery here in Clinton. Drifts everywhere.
It was pretty white out the few times I checked 3-4AM but I could still see the neighbors' houses.
What town are you in?
We have extra shovels if you'd like a "free" cup of Folgers

I have a Mitsubishi DA-R11 on my radar right now. Never owned one and waiting to see what kind of price I can get this one for. Anyone ever own one???
I had a MA-5200 amp for a year or two before it became a victim of the magic smoke.
I was new to getting into audio but I thought it sounded very good for what it was on old Pioneer CS-99a's..
I was recently scoping out an old Mitsubishi preamp as well..

GENUINELY DIG IT.

She and this album aren’t the best, but easily in the top 2 best songs in the album (the other being her cover of The Cranberries’ “Zombie”). Judge me hard, but this is just good pop rock. Plus, Billy Idol amirite?
If it feels good, do it. It would be a pretty boring world if we all listened to the same stuff. What would we have to talk about?

Throwing this out to the gang here - do you have any recordings (and what media) that you consider "reference standard" or ones ideal for system evaluation/demonstration?

I have quite a few. In different media. "Reference standard" though for me, these sources would not (and cannot) be the same for you. IMHO they have to be recordings you know perfectly, that you know pretty much every second of perfectly so you can tell a variance in the sound with a change to the setup. Find some sources that you know have deep bass and high frequency parts too so you can check out the range of sound.

In my book I include albums that are not perfect by any means. They have their limitations. But I know what they are. I am prepared for them. The reason I like to use these discs as a reference too is the DIY nature of a lot of music I like. I still want to be able to enjoy these records. I'm not a reviewer listening to gear all the time but love the music.

An interesting thing happened a couple of years ago. I was listening to some rough homemade recordings that I really love. I found out that my setup is now revealing enough that these sources flaws are so glaring they almost need to be heard on a setup that glosses over some of these flaws.

The great news is that likely no one has but that's what makes it a deal. Another excellent point in that interview was the comment regarding 70's through 90's Yamaha TT'' s being well priced but better than excellent performers. I love Yamaha gear but never explored their TT's so that may change soon. .

Thank Kev. I will look into that artist. As is the case much of the time, I am not familiar with her work.
