We started our business in the brutal 1979 recession. Basically it was the start of the end of Ontario's manufacturing and I can remember the only place where stuff like appliances were being sold was in Ottawa. It was recession proof at that time and the difference in the discretional spending when we went up their to bar hop in Ottawa and Hull was like night and day to places like Toronto and Hamilton. Toronto was wealthy for sure but not for the average joe at that time, Now it's becoming like London. You either have a lot of money or you are on social benefits. No other way anymore for a young person starting out to live here. Hell $75K/yr qualifies a single person to go on the affordable housing waitlistThe Ottawa region fairs no better. I live 50km outside the nations capital in a rural community and a house like mine sold for 450. About 100K over asking and the place didn't have near the upgrades I've put into my place in the past 15 years. Prices are nuts. My tax appraisal is a 325.
Half the homes in this town go unused.. beautiful places, not necessarily big, i ride by everyday, never seeeing anyone there, wondering how awesome my sound system would sound in the big room

Hope everyone's had a good week.
