What are you Listening To Right Now? - and more

I know your feeling, bhunter.

I lived in the So. Cal. area (born in Santa Monica, '64), grew up in the Conejo Valley area and raised a family there too. Moved from there to the Santa Clarita area from 2013-2018.

I left Cali and moved out here to Country BumkinVille back in Feb 2018. I have no regrets. I would never go back.

California was great place for me growing-up, from the late 60's as a child thru the early-mid 90's, when starting a family of my own. I started seeing the "writing on the wall" by the late 90's.

California has many beautiful locations. I especially like some of the areas up north along the coast highway.

Now, I'm not sure how anyone, especially young families starting out, can afford living there and starting their lives like owning a home, and all the niceties that I was accustomed to growing-up, unless, both mom/dad both work and each earn $150K+ a year. Surprisingly, it turns out there many examples of just exactly that, both mom & dad banging out the big bucks and living the dream. I tip my hat to those examples. You planned accordingly.

Of course, many folks that were already established (say purchased their homes by the early 90's) are still hopefully doing okay too, and I hope that continues.

From the end of WW2 through until recent years, California was the place that many wanted to flock to for the opportunities it offered, especially high tech.

As it turns out, BumkinVille here has more Californian's now too. Most changed their license plates within the first 5 seconds of arriving and are now toting their 2nd amendment on their hip.

I grew up in Culver City and had a blast in that area. The beaches were a stone throw away. Ascot park was 30 minutes away (I was a dirt bike freak) Hod rodding the streets around southbay and girls everywhere. Then it all went to **** around 1990

I remember this. That's where I lived as a child until around 1973 when my parents moved us out to the Conejo Valley area.

I lived at 11132 Wagner St. (click link) of course, that house didn't have the 2nd story addition when I lived there. However, my dad was a handy dude and could do anything. Including using a drafting table and generating detailed building plans. He was kind enough to give the family that bought the house his blueprints. I don't remember if it was that family or the next that implemented my dad's blueprints.

Roll forward to around the year 1997. Me and my own family were driving around Culver City and I was showing them my old stomping grounds. Drove by the house and the current owner at the time was out front. Pulled over and introduced myself and family. He brought us in and showed as around my old joint. Much off the single level part of the home was instantly recognizable. It was a nostalgic and emotional moment.

My parents sold that home for $45K back then. They purchased the home in the Thousand Oaks area for $42K. It was, from the get go, a much better home, it had central AC! 207 Venado Ave. (click link). That house is for the most part, unchanged.
