You and I are both in the process of putting together a room. My issue is I need a really nice shelving unit and as an amateur woodworker I refuse to pay for something I can make. And as an amateur woodworker I don't have enough time in the shop to make something I would want to put in a listening room.

Oh hell, milk crates and pine. Go for the college dorm vibe from the 70s. IMHO, there are a lot of shelving units available. I prefer Danish modern from the 50-70s. That said, the wire racks are hard to beat for utility and are adjustable.

I like the Danish style furniture too, I don't have any of that type furniture, but I really dig that look.
