I want to get the complete Beatles catalog, but with all the English and US releases available, I can't remember which albums I really need to end up with all the songs! It's kind of frustrating!! Can someone point me at a complete list?

go to wikipedia and look at the discography of their studio albums. Unfortunately, a lot of their b-sides never made it onto studio albums. Daytripper is one song, Love me do is another, but these are all available on Beatles 1, a great album of remastered songs.

Studio Albums:

Abbey Road
Beatles For Sale
Revolver
Magical Mystery Tour
Help (UK)
The White Album (The Beatles was the intended title)
A Hard Day's Night
Let It Be
Please Please Me
Rubber Soul
With the Beatles
Yellow Submarine
Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts club band

or just by the red (1962-66) and blue (1967-1970) cd sets, and you will get most of the songs you need. Also, the anthology disks are interesting, Rarities is a cool album... The Hey jude album had Rain on it, and the Free as a Bird album has four cool tracks, this one was done after John's passing.

In mono (my preference) ... and/or stereo? ... that's a pretty big undertakening ... not to mention a rather expensive one ...

Main LPs ...

Compilations ...

Good luck! ...

All of them. :smoke:

And don't forget a white vinyl copy of the white album, just for the cool factor. :D

There are more Beatles, almost every piece of tape has Beatles on it has been issued legally and otherwise.

Well, I want all the songs, but All Music lists the US an UK albums. If you bought all of those you'd have a lot of dupes. I think HiFi listed most of what I need. I believe the two Past Masters CDs (which I have) will round it out. Anyone know if that's right?

In any version ... mono ... stereo ... Capitol EQ ... UK? ...

Is sound quality important? ... most hardcore Beatles' fans consider the original wave of Beatles' CDs (most of which are still in print ... and some of which are the only inexpensive legal source for certain Beatles' songs) to be poorly mastered and seek out better sources ... if you plan to Ipod them, it probably doesn't make any difference ...

I just want all the songs. I believe I want the "regular" stereo mixes, even though they can be annoying sometimes.

I ordered a mess of used CDs last night and I think I'll be pretty close when they all get here. I'll post what I have once it all arrives and we'll see what everyone thinks.

I own all the studio albums on cd (also LOVE, Beatles 1, Anthology, Free as A Bird), and believe they sound great. I have sevetral Lps as well, some of which are studio albums, some are compilations, and some are capitol releases (Meet the Beatles, etc). I actually prefer the cds to the vinyl, but maybe my rig just needs to be upgraded. Just my opinion. Good luck, I hope you get what you wanted.

Does this list include all the original Beatles albums up to the breakup? Last being Let It Be? If so then I have all but three on Vinyl:

Please Please Me
With The Beatles
Beatles for Sale

Let me first state that I'm not the biggest Beatles fan. I've never even heard of the three above before. I recently bought a bunch of vinly from a friend of my wife's. He let me pick through his collection and take anything I wanted. Part of what I took was all his Beatles LP's. Others I grabbed are:

Meet The Beatles
Introducing The Beatles
Something New The Beatles
Hey Jude
Love Songs
Rock N Roll Music

So are all in this second group compilations?

These are all American releases of beatles songs, while they were improving their sound and gaining popularity.

Love Songs
Rock N Roll Music

These are compilations.

BTW, Introducing the Beatles, on the Vee Jay Label, is worth $1600 in the Goldmine Record Collectors Book! Thats in Mint Condish of course. Congrats, Sounds like you got a helluva nice collection.

That's the one I have. VJLP 1062. Not mint but good condition. I haven't even played it yet but I guess I'll have to check it out tonight. Is the price just because it's rare? That could have been one heck of a $1 investment. :smoke:

Sorry for the hijack Ed.

Yeah its pretty rare. You have the mono version as well, which is probably even rarer. They were only produced like 21 days in 1964. Yeah it was a good one dollar investment. Vee Jay did not last very long. They originally agreed to handle Beatle releases in the US because capitol refused. For all those reasons, it is a nice piece of history and probably worth a pretty penny. I own a copy of the record, but it has no sleeve and is beat to hell. Still pretty cool tho.

Funny, I just played both sides and when I first started listening to it I thought it was mono. But the Jacket says Stereophonic. Hmmm. There are no markings on the vinyl at all, nada. This LP looks to have had little playing time and it sounded very clean, hardly any pops and such, and it hasn't been cleaned. But I noticed a tiny bubble on the last song. It's a slight indent on Love Me Do, and a bubble on Twist and Shout on the opposite side. But it played fine with no skipping or any indication that something was wrong with it. The cover is in good shape considering it's age.

This LP actually has some of the cool early Beatles songs on it and has that raw sound, kind of like Los Angeles by X, but not quite as loud. :D I'm sure I'll just keep it but maybe I should check out eBay just in case. Thanks for the info. :thmbsp:

Edit, I guess Stereophonic doesn't necessarily mean stereo right?

It's a Fake

After doing some research on eBay the LP I have is a bootleg copy. Too bad as it's in nice shape. Oh well at least it has a bunch of songs on it I really like.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program about Eddie and his quest to have all the original Beatles music on CD.

No worries on the asside. I used to have that "not real" Vee Jay record. Don't know what happened to it, but since I bought it new in like 1978, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the real deal.

I've ordered a mess of CDs and I THINK I have what I want on the way. We'll to a complete listing when they get here. I'm still surprised that this information isn't easier to come by.

Take care,

Ed

That link to the discography are all the Beatles songs. The ones like Introducing the Beatles, and Yesterday and Today were American Releases by Capitol. The British Releases are the way the group wanted the songs programmed and released. The Capitol albums usually left a few songs off, added a few from singles and B sides, and basically screwed everything up.
Heres all you need:
Please Please Me
With The Beatles
Hard Days Night
Beatles For Sale
Rubber Soul
Help
Revolver
Sgt Peppers
Magical Mystery Tour
Beatles(White Album)
Yellow Submarine
Abbey Road
Let It Be
Past Masters I
Past Masters II
Anthology(all sets)

Capitol has confused matters by releasing all the American Lp's on CD,but stick with the ones above, which were the original cd releases, and youll have everything, and in the configurations the group originally wanted, without repeats.

Two albums I haven't seen mentioned, but worth trying to find are: "Live at the BBC," the Fab Four recorded from 62-65 during their radio broadcasts for the BBC—in mono, 69 songs on two discs, great hits and many unavailable anywhere else, also some delightful banter between the boys and the BBC host; "Acoustic Masterpieces—The Esher Demos," John, Paul, and George recorded at George's estate in May, 1968, doing acoustic versions of songs from the "White Album" (and a few that didn't make the cut)—has become a favorite in our home.
