What crossover would you recommend?

I recently acquired vintage club equipment. I've been unable to get about 6 pots working properly on the crossover even after cleaning with Deoxit and I'm considering purchasing a new crossover. I had another thread about the system specifically talking about appropriate crossover points for the 18" woofers, horns and tweeters. Some have stated that the Peavey 1801's shine in the 40-600 range. I'm not sure if the horns are safe to run below 1000 Hz (Altec Lancing...maybe 288's). I was thinking I could get something like a DBX 234s crossover and could run the woofers to 1000 Hz, horns 1000-5 or 6000 and tweeters above that. I was curious if I could try in four channel mode adding some low-mid speakers. I have some 15' three way full range speakers and an unused amp (which I haven't cleaned or hooked up yet). I was thinking (perhaps) I could run the Peavey 1801's from 40-500 Hz, the 15" full range from 500-1200, the horns from 1200-6000 and the tweeters above that. If that worked well I could purchase a second DBX 234s to run the second channel...if it didn't make enough difference then I could abandon the low-mid addition and run it like the initial setup. One question is that I know at least 3 of the 5 amps do not have xlr inputs. So I was thinking maybe a 2/3/4 crossover with 1/4 inputs/outputs would be more appropriate as the DBX 234s has XLR inputs/outputs. I am open to suggestions of crossovers, application and what cables would be the most appropriate.

I am surprised you haven't gotten any responses on this. Question: Did you consider replacing the bad pots to get the original system working?

As for adding a fourth channel, if I was you I would get them running as originally intended (three way) and see how it sounds before adding anything to it. It could be a can of worms trying to integrate new drivers with existing ones in the same range. Not saying it can't sound better, but it can also be a pain. I'd try them as is first.

A new crossover seems like a good idea. I would find out the lowest safe frequency to run the midrange driver/horn combination and try the first crossover point there.
