So, I'm starting to stash away money for a nicer turntable. I don't really know what's out there. The Technics 1200 models seem to be the popular choice, however I must admit I'm looking for something mid-level. I'd also like something with an auto return so I don't need to babysit the record. Which models sound right for me?

There are a great many Technics direct-drive turntables with auto-return. Just make sure you buy one of their later ones, made, say, after 1984.

What is your current TT and Cartridge? It might be that you have a decent TT and just need a better (or a better match) cart.

The SL-B200 is auto-return, so maybe yours isn't working properly. Usually it's something gunked up in the gears. Maybe open it up and have a look, and lube it. It's really not a bad turntable, and the AT cart with the hyperelliptical stylus is quite decent.

Perhaps an idea of your budget might help. Personally I'm not a big fan of the Technics. Too many people seem to use one. That doesn't make it bad just not my idea of fun.

I have a friend who only eats in Restaurants that are well populated because he says that speaks volumes about their food.:thmbsp:

The auto return works, I guess I'd just like to have a newer turntable that I've had from the beginning and something with more tweakable stuff. I can't really adjust anything other than replacing the belt, mat, or cartridge. As far as budget goes I was thinking between 200-300 dollars? If it looked new I wouldn't mind a used one, though.

JVC QL series and higher end Sanyos run under the radar a lot. Both have auto-return on these lines and are good performers.
