It seems pricing is all over the place on used lps. What is the average price that you have paid per record whether you buy by the piece or lot?

Not including the ones I've gotten for free the average would be $.50. I've paid as little as $.25 and high has $20+ for rare quads off eBay.

What do you guys think about buying up others collections? You get a lot of good stuff a lot of unwanted recordings and a bunch of cr*p. One price for it all.

Estate sales are either $1.00 or $2.00 per LP.

For the average LP at my used LP shop, $3.49 to $6.49, depending upon the artist, condition, and label. For example, my Brubeck "six-eyes" from Columbia in NM condition set me back $6.49 a platter.

I have given up on thrifts (for the time being).

I might do it. As I noted in another thread, I've got a line on a basement full of Jazz LPs from a former collector. I'm going next Tuesday during my lunch hour. My wish is that I am overwhelmed (original Blue Note pressings, etc.)and have to seek AK member assistance in getting these LPs to good homes.

I pick up good vinyl on occasion from goodwill for $0.50 a record.

Salvation army sells for $2.00 a record.

Yard sales, $0.25 and up.

Used record stores, average $7 to $9, but some up to $10 to $12 a record- specialty records, rare records, and new releases start at $12 to $15 and go WAY up.

Mine are $3 for destroyed records. No good as I will not buy an album that has a scratch.
Record stores are .50 for NM and up as far as it goes.

vinyl

Like most who have posted, several prices.
Salvation army here is 1.00
Goodwill .50-1.00
I have one semi local recycler who gets .10 ( I like THAT shop
Garage/yard sales, .50-1.00, if they want more than a buck unless its some good jazz I dont have, I walk away.
something special I ll pay the ebay or used record store price 6-10 dollars depending.

I've paid all over the map. I started out more as a record collector than audiophile, and have only gotten into tube amps & so forth to make my playback worthy of the collection. I've bought an awful lot of dollar records, and I've spent up to probably $300. I paid $15 for my copy of Karen Dalton record in my avatar, it sells for $180-$200 on ebay these days. My biggest score (value-wise) was a copy of Robin Scott's "Woman of the Warm Grass" ('69 Head UK) for $2 in the middle of new jersey of all places. The most I've spent have been on Furekaaben's first record in Copenhagen, and an original of Jackson C. Frank's LP in London.

To average out it would probably come to about $8, I'd say.

My target price is $100 or less for a minimum of 500 records. This has worked well for me and just today made a new connection for 500+ records 3-4 times a year within my pricing guidelines. :D

My last buy was a MF-5 turntable, VPI 16.5 record cleaning machine and 1700+ albums.....all for $600. In this collection was a considerable amount of rare titles and audiophile LP's from Sundazed and others. 99% of the 1700 are near mint, both jackets and vinyl.

The deals are out there, all you need do is put out the word.

Best,

Paul :thmbsp:

That's what I am talking about :thmbsp: Nice find.

I seem to pay about $3 on average... but they're always in mint shape from the used vinyl stores.

Beemer... nobody has a right to be that lucky.

For me in Saskatchewan it's a range as usual. Picked up 30 at a garage sale for $0.25 a pop in mostly VG+. NM in the local used book shop is anywhere from $4 to $25 depending on their perceived value. The local Vintage Vinyl (head shop) runs mostly between $8 and $12 but higher for the jazz and blues. Classical tends to be cheaper by a couple of bucks.

I really have to start checking the paper for estate sales and stuff but that will have to wait until I get some shelves built!

Believe me, I look for "the deal". sometimes luck is involved, like being quick when something pops up on C/L, however most of my luck is made.

Tell your friends, family, co-workers, fellow church members what you are looking for. On the post board at the supermarket put up a card.....these are how to make luck swing your way. Put some time and effort into it and you;ll be surprised what will fall out of the tree.

All over the map. Bought a new album today for $13.00 while I also know a thrift where they are 7 for a quarter and that is before half price day.
