to artistry of any form,...
I am a retired faux finishing specialist, and fine home finishing expert. I have two homes featured in Architectural Digest magazine, in 1987, and another a year or two later. One home was a magazine cover, and featured article. The other home was a featured article. Each home was 15k sq.ft., and on the beach in Laguna Beach - Emerald Bay.
These people wanted to be seen.
We also built, and, finished a home, on 150 acres of Orange County land, estimated to be around 150 million dollars, of the most exquisite finishing that can be imagined. Mansions just start to describe this one. American castle, perhaps more fitting.
These people didn't want to be seen.
I mentioned this particular project early in this thread. Then, recently, I found this listing on Zillow (real estate and home sales site) for this same home. I was left guessing its value for decades, up until I found this recent link. Now listed at $125,000,000
This 47044 square feet Single Family home has 12 bedrooms and 20 bathrooms. It is located at 24331 Coto De Caza Dr, Trabuco Canyon, CA.

Cameras were not allowed on this property. Being caught with one was immediate cancelling of contract. So, me being a non-photographer, I don't have my own pics,... these will have to do.
What did I do?
I was the fine finishing superintendent. When the framing was done, i took over, and, we started into the finest, most exquisite finishings possible. Money was no object, and large invoices were not worrying to them. They wanted the finest, and we gave it to them (well, hardly just
given).
Features:
24k sq.ft main home on 150 acres of the finest land in southern Orange County,
This man owned most of the land that Rancho Santa Margarita city was built on, and he developed most of it. Money -> no object.
16k sq.ft car barn that was built to house his newly acquired car collection, The Harrah Car collection.
This place had parking spaces for all the cars. It had an automated drive thru car wash, and, an apartment for the mechanic.
Helipad
Equestrian rink and stables
Multiple ponds, which at one point, we created a creek as a return flow from the ponds filters. In the winter and spring, the stream was stocked with trout for his grandkids. But, I see in the pictures now, that the stream was removed or renovated into something that I do not recognize.
Interior:
solid plaster walls, and, with crown moulding and other plaster trim that were poured on site by Italian plaster masters that were brought over for the job.
All of the trim work wood was of the finest grade, with lots of solid walnut.
This first pic features the 16k sq.ft car barn in the foreground.
All of the orange groves are part of this property (from hard left and hard right of image). It extends downward to the main road that is marked by the dark green strip at the right side of the property just beyond the ponds. I live just beyond the furthest mountain ridge high point on the right.

Then,.... on a different job, a scaffold collapse, and a 30' fall took me out of the trades with herniated discs in my neck and upper back, dislocated right thumb and shoulder from trying to check my fall of 30'
