What Media Player do you use for your good digital files??

I'm using iTunes by default since I have an iPod, but I'm also moving into the digital realm and am looking for a solid format/player to use. Since iTunes doesn't support FLAC and I had a royal PITA when I migrated my .WAV files to a new HD because of the metadata, I'm looking for a better option.

I still want to use my iPod for music, but the apps really get the work, so I'm considering running a dual system, with iTunes 320 kps .mp3s for portable music and the real deal burned to some higher rez format.

What do you guys do/use??

I use Vortexbox. Plays AAC, Apple Lossless, FLAC, mp3, etc. Rips to FLAC and retrieves album art without any user intervention...toss in a disc, wait a few minutes, and its done. Once an album is ripped to FLAC, it can be mirrored to nearly any other format you wish. it even has an iTunes server built right in :yes:. I have the USB out on my Vortexbox going to my Peachtree Audio Decco, then the preouts to my 6B4G SET. Makes for a nice mix of old and new.
 
iTunes on a MacBook Pro, iPod and iPhone. I don't really listen to my phone, the iPod is used for runs, exercising, yard work and in the car.
 
I see your issue with FLAC and Mac, and am not fond of the limitations, cross-platform of AAC/MP4 and Apple Lossless.

That said, I've otherwise been very pleased with iTunes and use it exclusively. Always liked the interface.
 
Windows Media Player: Computer setup no big deal. Just a reason to make another setup. No serious listening done with it. Simply background music. :D
 
I currently use iTunes controlled remotely with my iPad. I have a Mac Mini connected via optical to my AV processor.

I am looking at a few optional add-ons for my Mac Mini. Pure Music and Amarra are two options I am considering. If I go this way, I may get a new tweaked out mac Mini and external DAC so I can use higher res digital audio files.

Other options that I am looking at are hardware based media players/streamers. This option will allow either a direct HDD connected to it, files pulled off a NAS, or a built-in HDD on the device.
 
Foobar2000, but also Winamp sometimes for the visualizations (when I sit in a chair and listen to music while reading and look up to watch the pretty colors from time to time on my computer flat screen lol). IOW: Foobar for when I'm using a music player in the background (minimize the player) and doing things on the computer (from work to browsing/reading) and Winamp for visuals when I'm back away from the computer and I open the visual screen full screen to see across the room.

I've tried about everything out there (Monkey, JRiver, WMP, etc.) and it's all a matter of personal preference.

I only use EAC for ripping cd's to FLAC/lossless though.
 
iTunes for playback. I find it quite reliable, easy to use.

Encoding however, I use Max 0.91 for the Mac OS-X. It does a absolutely superb job of ripping, error correcting, and encoding. It makes the encoder for iTunes (Quicktime) look really bad.
 
Winamp for FLAC support, and transcoding same to my iPod. It also can generate "more like this" type playlists, but that feature causes my old computer to crash.
iTunes for managing Podcasts.
 
For me, computer stuff isn't a priority, just something to listen to on headphones while I'm on the computer. It isn't connected to my system, even though it's only 8 feet away. If I like something enough, I will burn a disc.
So the windows media player does me fine.
 
foobar is the cleanest solution for me, small footprint, it just plays, rips and sorts.
