What part your of your system have you sunk the most $ into?

Apart from CD's, vinyl and RTR tapes (who knows what that all cost, bits and pieces over 30-odd years) my CJ PV12 pre-amp was my biggest investment by far and it was used, at that. Can't say as I regret a penny of the investment, though. The power amps run a distant second place in the race.

Hey is it just me, or did everybody that answered "music" get the question wrong ?

The OP ask about your "system" (as in gear). What part of your system did you spend the most bucks.

Music is not gear and it's not a part of your system. Music temporarily goes in, on, our comes out of your system.

Ok Snade, calm down. :D

In this order:

My Vinyl front end. I have approx $1000.00-1100.00 in it current new cost would be $1275-about $1350.00

MY Recapped Pioneer SA-9100 I have approx. $400.00 in buying it with shipping. And I'm about to dump another $150.00 in it for repairs.

So this begs the question what part of your system have you spent the most on?

I guess I would have to say it would have been my two pair of Yamaha NS-1000M's . I bought them new. I never found anything to replace them.

Next would have to had been my Yamaha (I am not sure I have the model # correct)CD-1 cd player. It was their first cd player, it was single play, no remote and had tracking problems ~$1,000. But it was a CD player! That was back when a cd player was priced so high you really had to be stupid to buy one.:stupid: It has since been replaced. :D

I spent the most on speakers by a factor of 5. Next would be the CD player, which I bought new; then the turntable, then the stylus for the turntable, followed by an amp.

I just paid $2100 Aussie for a phono stage.(I haven't heard or received yet)
The crazy part is that my system's never sounded better.
It should be interesting to see what this unit does. :scratch2:

My MC 275, followed by my Technics RS 1700.

I certainly hope that finishing my basement will be less than the cost of that amp (so I can have money left over for the pre)

I've spent most $$$ on turntables/arms/cartridges.
The most expensive combo would be around $850, but it's hard to tell.

After the source, the investments decrease rather rapidly:
Accuphase E-302 $690
Stax Lambda Pros with energizer $240
Sansui AU-G90X $185

Speakers $0 - $50 (HPM-100, Ram Monitor 100, Snell K/II, Technics SB-F2, various small Acoustic Research)

Btw, the Norwegian currency is quite strong compared to the USD, so it's not as much as it seems.

My stromberg tube monoblocks by a nose. Between buying them, having them restored, and getting a nos kt88 it added up quickly. I won't quote the amount but I'm glad they're up to snuff and paid for as well.

You are right Snade I did ask the question about everyone's system. :D If I added up all my albums and CD's I am sure the figure would well surpass any single component in my setup. Nonetheless it is interesting to hear everyone's perspective. :thmbsp:

I would have to say speakers. A best guess would be $ 1500.00. Next down the list would be the amp, which had a rebuild in 2004.

SW is definitely part of my system, and the part I have spent the most on. Without records and CDs the HW will not make music, tuners being the exception.

Single most expensive HW item is my Scott 4310. Well worth it for all the free music, the true meaning of FM, it provides.

Speakers or music, I'm not sure which but one or the other cost way more than all of the other stuff.

My amplification, both pre and power. I went from a $450 Sansui AU-9900 to a $900 McIntosh C29 and $850 MC2002, both mint.

Now I need to step it up on the turntable front with all the clean vinyl I've picked up lately...

1st most expensive SX-1250
2nd most expensive Fisher 400
3rd is Fisher 500c, etc. all the way down to $10 for Marantz 2015 (the cheapest)

In fact my SX-1250 cost me only $25 more than my Fisher 400.
