What really defines VINTAGE???

As I said to David, I don't want an orchestra in my room. I want a seat at the concert or a chair at the studio. I want to be there, not them being here. There is a difference.

That's it right there. I don't want the instruments all around me. I want them IN FRONT of me, like I'm 2nd or 3rd row at a concert. That's the kind of "You are there" sound I like, and that's what the old Wharfedale sound is all about (Plus, it's very-physical... Visceral... Organic.... It's like, you wanna' BATHE in it).

I see.

So what Pando means by "you are there" instead of "they are here" is that; he doesn't really mind about perfectly accurate reproduction ("they are here"), because such thing is quite difficult to achieve. For example, even when using the most accurate studio monitors, factors like listening space still keep you from "bringing them here".

"You are there", on the other hand, is easier to achieve. What's important is the enjoyment of the music ("you are there"), not the most perfect accurate reproduction ("they are here").

Am I correct?

IMO the ideal recording is done with one stereo microphone positioned in the best seat in the concert hall. Problem with this is I need to have an anechoic chamber as a listening room to eliminate all the artifacts my room ads to that.

Yes, you will loudly hear someone cough or yap right next to the mic, but same case with you being there. It is part of the live experience.

Lets see what really defines vintage consumer audio equipment. ?mmmmmmmmmm ? let me think .

I know!.. if it is old and came from the curb or maybe a dumpster score or maybe a Goodwill or other Thrift score, Yard sale, garage sale ,city dump, barn find ?:D

To define the word vintage, I would have to say any stereo product produced before 1995. Basically before the internet. That would be the true definition of vintage.
